In this video, I will show step by step the restoration of an old rusty knife. This is an unusual rusty knife, and this is a bayonet knife of the Word War 1939-1945. This knife is for the Mauser K98 rifle.
Mauser 98 is a German rifle created in 1898 by Mauser. It was in service with the German army until the end of World War II and gained a reputation for high-precision and reliable weapons. Various variants of the Mauser rifle are still popular today as hunting and sporting weapons.
First, I'll take it apart for parts. Over time, and this is more than 80 years, rust has strongly penetrated into it. So that the screws cannot be unscrewed, it was necessary to completely destroy the wooden handle in order to unscrew the screws with clamps. WD-40 comes to the rescue. To remove rust, I immerse all parts of the knife in vinegar and leave it for a whole day.Then I clean off the rust with a metal brush.
When making a wooden handle, I use oak. With a wood cutter, I will remove excess material to create a ledge that will firmly hold the handle in the correct position. I will cover the handle of the knife with oil-wax.
