After trying magic erasers heat, guns and even ultra mild sandpaper I found this video and tried your method and I must say I was astonished at how well this works! I had it easy because my interior is all black. I used the black crayon on some very mild scratches and even some fairly deep ones and they are all virtually impossible to tell that they even existed! 👏👍

Nice. Glad to hear and that it gets the job done economically, which I'm all about!

This tip worked so well. I personally found smearing across the scratch rather than along its length, and working it steadily till it thinned out. I finished it off with some car plastic interior dress spray and it looks pretty damn good.

Grab a black or gray China pencil aka grease pencil. Hobby Lobby has 2 packs for 2.99 It’s what car makers use at factory/dealership to fill in/ hide scratches MAKE SURE you clean panel first with an interior cleaner or degreaser or it won’t stick. I hit it with aerospace 303 protectant after and so far haven’t ever rubbed off

Interesting, I'll have to try that one day if the crayon molded into the plastic piece ever gets bad.

Waaaaay better! Will have to give this a try. I was about to grab my hairdryer, but the heat could mess up rhe pattern so this should help to alleviate some obvious scratches.

Actually the heat helps to work the crayon in better. Or you might be able to heat up the area and rub it back in even before using the crayon.

After you used the crayon and rubbed it in what did you seal it in with and if someone rubs up on it will the crayon transfer to their clothes?
@FixCarYourself
@FixCarYourself 7 ай бұрын
I actually didn't seal it with anything. This trim is not really high traffic anymore. However, some have suggested nail polish (if small area) or a clear spray top coat, mod podge spray, etc.

Wash the natural body oil off your hand with dish washing soap before hand. Increases adhesion.

My father had an old Ford Fairmont 78 colored light blue, I was 10 and read a magazine with this trick for the external body color. I use a crayon off the same color and it helps to hide all those scratches

I have tried this before...wait until you park your car on a day where its over 100-110 degrees outside and the cars interior temperatures get up to 130-----150...even 170+ degrees inside... that crayon will melt. Ask me how i know...lol.

Put a ceramic coating over it. Like interior detailer with ceramic protection. Ceramic will repel heat and seal it

You could, if you do a light brush and then rub it in fast or sand it in fast. Just make sure you get the factory paint.

If you "fix" it like this and next time you have to clean the interior of your car it will most likely wash away. I believe that the method with a hot gun and sanding does a much much better job. Not to mention that in the video at the end you can still see the scratches and that something is off, it's not seamless... I know that this comment isn't a positive one, but it's the truth, not hard feelings. :)

You can use a blow dryer as well to "bake" it in, and fine sanding also helps as well. This video was meant to show what to do in a quick pinch.

Well that's temporary. Once you use a wipe to clean the trim it will all get on the towel 😂

You have a better idea other than replacing it?
@elkioscotv4546
@elkioscotv4546 8 ай бұрын
Actually yes. Apply heat for a permanent restoration. The crayon material will eventually detach from the plastic. You could try applying the crayon and then heating it up to fuse the crayon with the plastic. I've used a torch in super quick bursts to hide 90% of the scratches on these types of trims. I'ts not a 100% repair, but way better than just painting with a crayon.@@FixCarYourself

Actually I agree, and I have done that before. This video was meant to show a very simple way to restore a small piece of trim with the minimalist amount of effort. You could just leave a crayon in the car and use whenever, as opposed to a blow dryer which needs an outlet and a little bit more preparation. Now instead of a torch a blow dryer surprising is good enough to fuse the crayon into the plastic, and yes would be even more preferred then putting a crayon down.
