Pedro's 1964 Faemina 2nd Model "Blue Label" Rebuild with our friend Edin Merdjanic from
Merdjanic Designs
The Faemina second model maintains the technical features of the first model, with some cosmetic changes.
The machine was produced in 1964, The label shows serial number and technical details
The second model is recognisable not only by the label with a blue background
The FAEMA (Fabbrica Apparecchiature Elettro Meccaniche e Affini) was born in Milan in 1945 thanks to Carlo Ernesto Valente.
His name is especially linked to the machine for bar Faema E61, designed in 1961, which introduces two important innovations, the water pump to give the ideal pressure of 9 atmospheres and the infusion, which allows you to wet the ground coffee with hot water before starting the extraction, thus ensuring the best extraction of aromatics substances.
With regard to coffee machines for domestic use, Faema produced between 50s and 70s, three machine models lever, the Faemina, the Veloxtermo and the Faema Baby.
The Faemina, an imposing machine made of cast bronze and weighing about 11 kg, features a closed-boiler with piston actuated by a spring, with the possibility to make steam. The EMI in Milan made a clone named Emina.

How beautiful, and from an industrial design perspective really stunning.

Hey, thanks for covering this amazing machine. there’s a real lack of modern coverage on these and it’s a shame because they’re awesome. I owned one and used it daily for more than a year and it was a total diva, but once I figured it out it was such a peach and it made some of the best shots I’ve ever drank. I’ve since sold it to a friend because I needed a less fragile and more mobile setup but I’m forever a fan of these things

I have owned vintage levers like arrarex and la peppina, but faemina is my favourite. Good to see people starting to make in depth content about these vintage beauties!

Thank you :) Will be doing a video on my 67' Cremina too. Love the look of the Faemina, yet the Cremina is just special, and pulls magical shots.

My favourite lever - one owned and operated by someone else! 😆 I see the absolute beauty in these old machines, but I’m too much of a modernist to want to drive one (and failed science/maths in high school… 😜). My first prosumer machine was a Maver Makin (acknowledged not a proper lever), and switched to a NS Musica Lux, and about to switch again to a VA Eagle One Prima (thanks Pedro!) and haven’t looked back - give me switches, lights, bells and whistles any day! Having said that, I do have a lovely old siphon on display in my home that someone gave me, so I would not never want to own one, just not operate one. 💜

hahah I hear you! Although I do like using lever machines (not daily but on a special occasion or on weekends). Daily, you can't beat machines like the Prima :)
