Putting some copper grease on the back of brake pads is pretty much standard when servicing car brakes. Stops them squealing. No problem at all if you use high temp (e.g. copper) grease!

@Cyclingismywholelife
@Cyclingismywholelife Жыл бұрын
I worked as a car mechanic for several years and lubricating brake parts is normal, I was surprised to hear you say people find it odd to lubricate the backs of the pads. The pads need to move in order to serve their function, rust and debris can hinder that movement. Sometimes something that seems obvious, one way or the other isn’t always correct.

Very nice! You make me feel less bad about purchasing a second torque wrench (2-6nm) and feeling like I need a third. Got one that's probably made for car work (20-140nm) but good for stuck stuff and some selected screws on the bike - are those the one that have leftys? You mentioned the bottom bracket (40nm?), anything smaller with a lefty? Now I probably still need something in the 5-25nm range or need to rely on my battery drills torquesettings...
@KarlosEPM

"Split beam" torque wrenches can measure in both directions but are trickier to use. Pedals: left one is left hand threaded.

Thanks for these videos, they're an oasis of peace in the middle of th week. Question: I have a miniature vice (attaches to the horizontal surface of a desk... looks funny!) for derailleur work, but I need (want) a bigger one for wheel hub and other cup and cone adjustments. Which size would you recommend? Thanks in advance! 🙂

1:38 classic shimano BB, seal falls out, bearings crap out. Plastic nds cup cracks, can't reuse them. I've got one of these specialized s in the graveyard pile. No chain stay bridge + the narrowest BB to chain stay tube width = flexy rear end that bananas if you land sideways of a curb. At least the head tube wall thickness was decent on this model

Brilliant service as usual. I was wondering if you ever come across a bike where the brakes are setup so the right hand operates the front brake and left hand the rear? I was wondering if that was and old school setup.
@Bikespeeds
@Bikespeeds Жыл бұрын
I do quite regularly. It’s not an old school set up but actually left hand drive, a lot of bikes are coming in to the U.K. from European sellers especially during the last couple of years with supply chain issues brought on by the pandemic. I see a lot more left hand drive push bikes than ever before! People look at me gone out when I explain this!

Drown rear derailleur in degreaser, lubricate jockey wheels and drop some oil on body is a way how to destroy main bearings and torsion springs. Wipe by rag is in this case more gentle and enought. By the way a lot of youtubers do it wrongly like You.
