I bought a broken down old brush hog for $50, it had lots of issues so I stripped it down and fixed all the broken worn out parts and gave it a paint job... Its like new now.

When I was in my early teens, a friends dad had a slasher just like that. He got a molded plastic school chair, cut the front two legs off, welded an axle and wheels to the back two with a draw bar to the slasher. That was his ride on to cut the long grass at the back of their small acreage. Control the slasher with one hand and a beer in the other.

The way I've always seen is the top bearing on the blade shaft is always sealed since the grease you pump into the cavity will always migrate down and the top bearing will starve for grease if it's not sealed up. The bottom bearing should have it's top seal removed, leaving the bottom seal intact. Should use steel-sealed bearings instead of rubber/plastic so the pressure of the grease is less likely to push the steel sleeves out of place than the rubber/plastic. That's the way it is on my John Deere riding mower spindle assemblies.

They are an amazing bit of kit for Tight areas and large grasses, but like you show they are lethally dangerous when they throw stuff as they are just built like a tank but you have to be careful. What an amazing job you did with it once again with loads of Inspiration, I find that being a Scrounge is such an amazing hobby for me and others where you can take things that are never going to go again or repurpose things to meet your needs at cheap costs, Free, just our labor and sweat but now you have a motorized tool that is no toy doing a Job that is hard for us to get done? How can anyone not be enthused or uplifted by that content? or the morals of why waste everything? look at that unit, it's stronger than what is made today it's rebuildable as you have shown, it actually makes you a better man? being able to fix it once means when you need to do something again you know how it works, where the weakness may have been and what needed beefing up, plus I find even watching you work and my sweating watching LOL, gives me great ideas or just makes me feel good to watch a Dad deliver for his Family even when not a lot of money is involved, so the cop-out that I cannot afford to get started really falls short. I know many real MEN out here in the world has tools laying extra and if a Young Brother needs to get started then they may donate some tools so all you need to do is find an old toy to start with or something that may make you or your families life easier, then start with that because common interests help you to learn and grow, it gives you confidence in all aspects of life including social skills, it helps with your self-esteem because great people like Marty T made a call to better his or his families life one project at a time and now for years we have become one, The Inspirer and the Inspired.
