A beaten up, scruffy looking Bialetti (or any well used mocca pot), is a badge of honour in your kitchen and shows that you really mastered the art of mocca pot coffee making! Nice shiny new ones are plentiful, cheap and fine if you absolutely have to, but then there's the process of 'wearing it in' till it produces a decent brew. i would 100% try this and not replace mine unless it was the only course of action. Do agree though that gaskets etc aren't worth trying to clean up too much and are simple and cheap to replace. Your finished, cleaned pot has that great patina that comes with age and use! Disregard comments about scratching and health hazards. That aluminium myth was debunked long ago! A strong smell of aluminium is not surprising as, well.... the pot's made of aluminium. This is well worth taking a bit of time over! Love it!

This is what I did to my first old one from the thrift store. It's pretty controversial. I've even heard that Bialetti now puts a coating on and if you scrape that away...? I am convinced the better option is to get a new one and just clean it right all along and don't store it wet or all put together. I don't like taking the gasket and filter out very often but I think moisture gets up there, stays and then drips down on the bottom chamber and that pits the aluminum. The baskets, filter and gaskets, don't even mess with. Just order replacements. The outside of your pot, I guess you could do anything with. As far as the controversy regarding whether aluminum is safe anyway, I looked up the statistics about cancer and alzheimers in Italy, where these pots were invented in 1933 and used a lot and there was nothing different. If anything I think the cancer rate was slightly lower. And dark roasted coffee beans have less caffeine!

Microfiber cloth and baking soda is enough to clean it. You should dampen the cloth and dip in baking soda then scrub the pot. If you clean it more often it will be easier to clean.

Is your pot stainless steel or aluminium?

I clean my 10 year old moka the same way as this video every year or so. I use dish soap for best results. The logo will obviously come away. You need hard scrubbing and some free time but the results pay off. I can almost make a mirror out of it.

It would be cool to use some polish paste for the mirror effect! How did u do ?
@gio00422 жыл бұрын
@@lucamulticolor yeah probably it would need some polishing compound to achieve a perfect mirror finish... The closest thing that i could achieve was a very dull reflection using only steel wool and soap but i would say that's still kind of impressive. i think that even if someone manages to polish it perfectly it wouldn't last very long with the everyday usage

Come on, you can get a new rubber gasket for that lovely moka :)

How about a good wipe with a sponge and a good rinse with hot water after every use?
@pedroclaro7822 Жыл бұрын
I did this with a steel wool that was too thick and ended up with aluminum all over my hands, and I do not dare taste the coffee because it reeks of aluminum. I'll have to get a finer wool and a polishing compound if i ever wanna use mine again.

I wanted to muy a second hand one that looks a bit like that, but not worth it, looks like a lot of cleaning, better to get a new one, maybe its even not safe as its made of aluminium

Yes, maybe u are right. It was a try and i was satisfied with the result !

See you took half the Bialetti logo with the steel wool. No thanks.

really why ?

Well done, you removed every bit of the character of the pot. Steel wool is the most aggressive way to clean, try vinegar next time.

It wont clean the inside and it wont remove coffee oils over time.
