Despite the fact that this wouldn't turn on and a button didn't work, this was in surprisingly good condition for its age. Whoever originally owned this obviously really loved it and took good care of it until it stopped working.

Its interesting seeing this video, having a gameboy of this model from when I was a kid, and thinking "damn that one looks like it's in rough shape" when i compare it to mine, only to see people praising how good condition it is. Makes me feel good that I have cared for the condition of my games and systems for this long tbh. Just regret selling every single video game I sold to pay for other games. Lots of stuff I used to have but dont anymore that I regret getting rid of

@perrycoffey5410

@OddTinkering
@OddTinkering Ай бұрын
Failures absolutely sometimes happen, especially electronic can simply not be fixable without taking the part from a different device and sometimes it can be hard or impossible to find replacement, let alone make new part, but it doesn't happen very often when I film. I do often have a fairly good idea if the item is fixable. And most problems with electronics can be fixed with a enough effort unless you need to start manufacturing your own chips or screens or other complicated parts. I probably wouldn't post a regular full video of failed attempt on this channel, if I start doing shorts or tiktok or similar content in the future, I could share failures in those if I get around to posting short videos too

On the bad connection between the CPU and the button pad; Quite often what fails is the "via".. That is the hole between the layers of the printed circuit board. Often you can fill up the "via" with solder so it is continual between both sides of the board and it will clear the 'open'. That is how we fixed problems similar to this on PCB's (printed circuit boards) in manufacturing when a device would not pass its initial test. VIA's are an 'unnatural' path and rely upon inserts that should be tinned on both sides. They can be intermittent (they fail or pass if the board is flexed ever so slightly or on temperature changes). Filling them with solder is not a bad thing and if you later decide to add a jumper you can clean them out. Also, consider using something known as 'wire wrap wire' for your jumpers; It is much finer solid stranded wire. It makes for a cleaner, more error-free repair. Then place a dot of super glue on the wire to hold it down to the circuit board just a few millimeters away from the wire.

A great restoration and video as always but I somehow knew he'd replace that sticker. To me, there's nothing wrong with having the original stickers be a little worn/dirty. I think it adds to the character and history of the device. Also, I still saw a bit of dirt on the shell during reassembly. If you just leave the plastic pieces soaking in the hot, soapy water for a while before cleaning, it makes all the difference.
