Hi Everyone, in this video we have Toshiba Satellite C855D S5230 with AMD E1 1.4GHz CPU and AMD Radeon HD 7310 GPU. It's a very low specs laptop but still not very bad. I have done some upgrades, From 2GB DDR3 to 8GB DDR3, From None to 240GB Kingston SSD and I add 1TB HDD instead CD ROM

I just restored a similar C850D-11K with the same APU, but slightly different construction details. It got a new SSD, a new battery and I'm now waiting for a used keyboard and a new WiFi/BT-module to arrive. I bought the machine in a very bad and dirty condition and basically did the same job that you did. Love the feeling of giving neglected old things a new life, no matter how big the effort! Mine is running with (Bodhi)Linux now and works so much faster than you'd expect from an old machine like that. Great job and great video of yours!

Only thing I would have done differently is to add superglue to the cracks on the other side of the cover, then grind it out before painting to mask the crack. I can see the crack through the paint on the left. Otherwise, this is perfect. Great job!

I bet there's someone with the same laptop having the specs prior to the upgrade, who's happily using it as their daily driver and felt their ears burn when they heard *low specs* and was distracted for the rest of the day with the words "low specs..... low specs.... low specs," ruminating in their head....

Dear Andrew, You did a great job showing everyone how you upgraded your laptop into something usable. I recently upgraded my ASUS laptop to 12 GB of RAM from 4GB and added an SSD by taking the optical (CD) drive. Replaced with HDD/SSD caddy. It improved my specs but I find my CPU working way too hard on windows 10. I want to replace the old thermal paste and completely clean my laptop like you did. It must've taken quite some time to complete your project. Windows 7 seems like a better option as well. Overall, excellent job, Andrew. Sincerely, Richard

The fixes Andrew applied were very inexpensive; however, if others would like to add a better GPU by taking out the onboard wireless adapter it may be cheaper to go with a newer laptop with better specs like an HP.

Video well done Cat and Andrew ! , One thing to notice , The HDD shouldn't be in the Drive bay , because it uses less Power, and on shutdowns , restarts or sleep , the reader stop suddenly without having time to reset it's position , that harms the hard disk , you can search it up , instead put the SSD in the bay drive and boot from it , since it doesn't have moving parts , it's safer , it might lower everything to Sata 2 but works like a charm ! Like this so i get you've seen this and tell me if i'm right or wrong , if i'm right i hope you apply this in your future Videos ! Have a good day .

Excellent videos. but several points: 1- thanks for the decent music. Music in your videos has improved. 2- Even though the repair view is a delight, i think the $ and effort for some of them is not worth it. 3- Nice of you to paint but keep it simple for next ones. It looks odd. 4- For the reinforcement, i would have used plastic. Metal parts can come into contact with something and generate a short circuit. 5- What about a custom case? some videos around with old laptops inside wood cases.

Another way to repair the shell of the laptop is to use ABS cement. Once applied and dried, it becomes like the plastic of the shell itself, only harder. You can then drill a hole in it for the screw.

they should have the cmos battery on all laptops main boards in the same position as that Satelite laptop ... next to the ram !! instead of hidden away under hundreds of screws or in a position where you have to remove everything to replace it!..fixing that bezel like that to me is not a permanent fix because i done the same but you done a good job well done!! The earlier versions of those laptops I used to fix and the CCFL screens were a night mare on the Satelite series !! good video though! - shame the CPU was integrated if it was on a socket it would have been easier to put a new processor in... or even if the GFU was on a bus you could have even made it even better but good :D - saying that there is a PCI-E on board you could have pop a XFX or a GeForce on it, seems to be the normal thing now ..

if you noticed, the cpu is soldered to the mainboard which makes it almost impossible to upgrade. There were some of the older laptops (Lenovo G505 and 505s for example) which had a socketed cpu. The issue would be getting an updated bios that would support a more powerful cpu, and of course the board would have to support it also. My 505 I can go from an AMD A4 1500 to an A4 1800 (if the bios will support it) although the socket is the same type.
