When I rebuilt my 4g63 in my Galant VR4 years ago....I think I went 2 weeks with some major automotive anxiety looking and listening to the engine. I haven't been soo stressed out about anything on my cars since then. Great job man!
@montanamontero7 ай бұрын
yeah the first couple miles are stressful, and then the first big trip with it... so far so good!

Something about a Gen 3 Montero V6, such a good sounding motor

I just brought mine back to life, I had dropped a 10mm bolt in the intake manifold and it was jammed against the valve keeping it from closing.

haha yeahhhhh i have a few parts coming in from them every time i do a job

Great video thanks 🙏 Can you please share the part list with codes or brands, great for reference
@montanamontero5 ай бұрын
I won’t be able to get all the parts, but I used ITM bearings and rings, an ITM gasket kit, OEM valve cover gaskets and intake gaskets and a lot of parts from luso overland

stoked you've got these videos coming out so consistently! just got a gen 3, only had gen 2s before. Stoked to see the progress. Did you measure the old piston rings to check for wear? How about the old bearings? I'm interested in how long that bottom end would be good for if it didn't have that piston failure. Also, did you find out what could have caused that piston failure?
@montanamontero7 ай бұрын
thanks! i'm having fun making them. I never did figure out what got down in that cylinder.. could have been recent, could have been old, no clue. i didn't measure the crank or con rod bearings, but i did measure the rings and they were still 100% within spec. pretty crazy! as long as you can keep oil in these, they will last

Hi! Great content about Montero G3, I bought a 2002 G3 a couple of months ago. I just picked it up from the garage because they cleaned the engine, changed rubber valves, and seals, cleaned injectors, etc, but now it has an ABS code, and the handbrake light is on all the time, could you give me any advice, my mechanic friend is great but not specialist in Monteros, thanks!
@montanamontero7 ай бұрын
you will need to have someone with a very advanced scan tool read that ABS code to tell you what is going on. most actual mechanic shops have one

Awesome, nicely done! Since you're one of the world leaders in Monteros... any chance you know where I can learn how similar Gen 3 is to Pajero Evo?
@montanamontero7 ай бұрын
i appreciated the compliment, but i don't know anything about the Evos.. i wish i did!
@DriftaholiC7 ай бұрын
The engine in the evo being a DOHC with about 100 more hp. The suspension is remarkably similar though using steel instead of aluminum in some arms. Suspension travel, width etc is remarkably similar. You would need a short wheelbase gen 3 to be closest to an EVO. Gen 3's did beat the Gen 2 EVO's in the Dakar 2002 or 2003 iirc when Mitsubishi took the top 8 slots in all classes.
@bc41986 ай бұрын
@@DriftaholiCAwesome, thanks! I read somewhere that the diffs might be special to the Evo, but the suspension looked pretty similar in the photos I've seen. The other thing, I think, is the Evo being body on frame and the Gen 3 being unibody 🤔

Why so many problems with a rebuilt engine ?
@DriftaholiC7 ай бұрын
Curious how the lumpy idle turns out. Still searching for the cause of a similar issue on mine.
@montanamontero7 ай бұрын
mine smoothed out after the first test drive, i'm still getting a little vibration coming to a stop at stop signs, but i think that has to with new motor mounts
@Caeser6137 ай бұрын
Is this a diesel??
@montanamontero6 ай бұрын
Nope, it’s gas
@johnnystoka66257 ай бұрын
I would have rebuilt the transmission as the planetary gears are a known problem for those autos more than the engine .
@montanamontero6 ай бұрын
i haven't run into that issue, my trans shifts super smooth, plus, i have a back up one sitting on the shelf just incase it goes out :)
@johnnystoka66256 ай бұрын
@@montanamonteroI gather you do not give it a terrible time and are mechanically sympathetic then .
@montanamontero6 ай бұрын
I try. It’s also regeared to 4.9 with 33s.. so it has a mechanical advantage there

Dude, when you said 10 degrees - you meant Fahrenheit right? cz 'Murica? That's -12 Celsius!!! How the heck is metal even moving? 10 degrees Celsius in South Africa would make this country come to stand still (well, even more than normal) hahaha
@montanamonteroАй бұрын
haha yep 10 degrees Fahrenheit. Which is actually pretty warm for us in the winters.. we regularly hit -10f and -20f during January and February
