The strobe markings on the platter could be for 50hz mains, which is used in China where this turntable comes from.

The strobe marks on the side of the platter are most likely only for 50 Hz AC power.

The matte black , well-proportioned plinth, and shiny platter edge look very sharp but this one needs all the help it can get. PS. i added one more RSD 2024 release today while I could get it locally, the Parliament 2 LP set. And the first 45 I've bought since the late 1970s'. Bowie, orig. 1982 French pressing Cat People "Putting Out Fire" $10. Rough Trade Records NYNY . Could not resist.

I do like how it looks. But wow. the wobbly tone arm, the plastic platter with the fake strobe indicators, and the distorted sound. Definitely get back with Retekess with your constructive criticism of this unit, so they can use that to hopefully make improvements. To bad the copyright police had to strike as I wanted to actually hear that record, and get a better idea of just how that thing sounded (a little 2-second clip does not do it). You are correct that it is usually not worth to upgrade the cartridge on these lower end turntables. If one MUST upgrade, then I would not go more than something like the AT-VM95E.

Thanks Record-ology. We learn from your videos. Particularly, your use of strobe discs has been very useful to me in getting the LP60X adjusted to the correct speed. Your colourful acrylic mats was a great idea too. The blue one on the LP60X looks beautiful, sounds better and supports records more flat and firm with less static than the standard felt ever did. Thanks again.

Its typical of today, things rushed out, no lab testing. Line out is always defined at .775 volt max and sometimes less. Been that way since the beginning of time

Decent looking turntable. Bummer about the over modulation though. I don't know where the price point of this unit falls, but hopefully you just got a one off witha bad amplifier like you said.

Really weird, but thanks for your effort. Maybe the phono switch with external amp would be better but it's not the point to replace half of the things you should have gotten with your purchase.

Did you try connecting it in phono mode using an external preamp ? That may confirm whether it’s the built-in preamp or something else, such as the cartrige/stylus or even that azimuth issue which looked quite severe to me.

the only way to fix this is to connect the tonearm directly to the outputs and use a phonoamp.

I think maybe into a amp with phono input and turn off the built in preamp might be the way to go because your disconnecting the internal preamp that looks to be a piece of junk! Heck the Audio Technica Lp-120 had a nice preamp!

So i do need a speaker to play this thing? I bought based on amazon discroption it says it has built it speakers but when it got here (today) i couldnt play it or connect it to my phone:( do i just return it and get something simpler ? I dont want to have to buy speakers to play it

Yes - speakers (powered) are required. Or you could connect it to an existing sound system.

That's a bummer because I had high hopes for that Retekess TR639 turntable and I never understand why any manufacturer sending out products for reviews, especially turntables, does not test those products at the warehouse first because bad reviews cost those companies their reputations and future profits too.

too bad just looked this up on Amazon and it's only a $100 would be a great option for people on a small budget, it only has 5 reviews but they have been mostly positive, wonder if you do have a lemon or the others just don't really know any better? Also would how the position of the headshell/cartridge you noticed in the begining could have played a part in the distortion?

Hi I had a question, I replaced my stylus, they both look the same but for reason the audio is quiet on the new needle so I switched back to the old one and it’s also quieter, could I have accidently ruined both the needles?

Sometimes a static buildup can cause a temporary pop and the volume goes down for a few seconds but should come up again after no longer than 10-15 seconds.

FWIW, I have that Ronnie Aldrich album on reel to reel and it sounds horrible. It's heavily compressed and limited, especially on the piano parts...very distorted.

It's funny that you can hear the disappointment in your voice for the rest of the video as soon as you find out but it's a plastic platter.😢 I'd be curious to see what a record weight would do to the wow and flutter.

Suspicion confirmed, it's a piece of junk. Good luck with VTA with that wobbly tonearm. Just spend a little more and get an Audio-Technica turntable like the At-LP60X-BW.

Altough the turntable looked ok at first glance, the tonearm just sucks and for one reason only. Changing the cardridge for some higher end fidelity one can be done but is has a not removable headshell wich can cause problems when you accindentaly break a leader. One smaller issue is the non movable tonearm balance weight wich will be the most important thing and it's missing an anti-skate dial. Together with the incorrect azimuth of the tonearm this is one to avoid buying. Amazon is retailing this for 109.99, is it worth it's money?, the decision is yours.

If there was ever an argument to go vintage as opposed to buying new, this is it. The poor build quality, and the distortion, should send potential buyers running away from it, fast.

Looks like a piece of junk. I'm in the market for a new turntable but this ain't the one. Been doing a lot of shopping and so far I'm liking turntables made by "Uturn". Their top end table is a little under $1,000.00. I find that most any turntable under $500.00 is less than ideal. $100.00 turntables are disposable units. They are OK for a 10 year old but if you really care about good sound, do yourself a favor and save up for better table. I am watching this video right now but haven't heard you give a price yet. If I had to guess, I'd guess this turntable is worth about $69.95. Not impressed.

You can get a fantastic turntable for $100 or less if you look around in the used market.
