Retevis RT27 FRS Version ➜ geni.us/gYhjW
In this product review, we will have a closer look at a set of license-free walkie talkies from Retevis.
The maximum range can vary depending on your environment, best distances are generally reached under optimal conditions (e.g. open line of sight).
More realistic is to assume a shorter range, because houses, trees, and other obstacles can reduce the signal quality significantly.
If you are located in the US, you can benefit from a slightly higher output power of up to 2 watts.
However, in Europe PMR446 radios are not allowed to have a replaceable antenna, and can only transmit at a lower output power of 0.5 watts.
Because of this, it is perfectly normal that these radios perform best in close range communication.
At first, a short range may seem like a disadvantage, but if you think about it, it also has advantages.
In a city with many users, simultaneous transmissions on the same channel, are less likely if the radios only have a short range.
The benefit, users are not constantly bothering each other on one of the 8-16 available PMR frequencies.
In addition, the low output power extends battery life, and you can use the radios longer while consuming less power.
Also, if your radio would transmit over longer distances, more people could listen in, which is also avoided by the weak transmission power. Because a potential eavesdropper would always have to be close enough to receive the signal.
Also, I find it interesting to note that many of these types of radios can be programmed with an additional USB programming cable.
In my test, the communication quality was ok, personally, I think the Retevis RT27 is targeted at the budget entry level radio market.

Since you have both of the radios, how would you compare the RT27 vs RT17? If you would put them side by side, which one has better sound quality and range? I am in US and I like the look of RT17 better then RT27, but from your videos RT27 sound is more pleasing then RT17.

For the best performance, consider radios that allow for external antennas or higher power output such as CB radios.

This is a VHF radio that will operate on the US MURS frequencies, however it is not optimized for the US market. The antenna is not removable as permitted by US MURS, and it’s only a half watt. The MURS radios are permitted 2 watts.

It's probably programmed incorrectly. I had to stick one of mine on the computer and programme the channels to their proper places. I also bumped-up the power to two watts on both radios, it makes a difference to the range of these; no worries, nobody will know 😁

Just a point the r.t27 antannae is actually one and a half inches approx so a lot of the antannae tubing is wasted space. A few of the retevis radios with fixed antannaes are exactly the same including the rt24 which has half an inch of wasted tubing which also serves no purpose .
@ReviewTechTV
@ReviewTechTV 5 жыл бұрын
What wavelength would that be? Because PMR 446 is in the 70cm band I would have guessed the antenna is a 1/6 wavelength (11.2cm) (4.4 inches) or at least a 1/10 wavelength (6.7cm) (2.6 inches).

I've tested the new retevis rt648 against the rt24 and the rt24 wins hands down the antannae on the rt648 is only a 2inch coil in the tubing which is made to look longer than it actually is in reality same size antannae as the Motorola hunter.
