I am quite liberal in most issues. I will never be vegan or vegetarian. I’ve had a high insulin release, even as a child that causes me to only survive and thrive on lower carb. I follow my own values, not the values of any particular party. I do prefer pasture, beef, and chicken when it is available in a decent price range. Without a lower carbohydrate I wouldn’t be able to live well or have energy. Likewise, I know some liberal folks that follow low-carb and keto also.

Type 2 diabetic over 20 years on insulin always had highs and above 20. I would battle all day trying to lower bloods with insulin. On phd and found my libre shows no spikes and level readings off insulin the readings are now between 8 and 13. All through diet brill. GRATEFUL only problem is meds for conditions may be inhibiting weight loss i take off weight very slowly but then put on again. I have only done this for 8 weeks now hopeful for more to take place the longer i am on this.

It's because people don't listen to dietary advice and now people are saying doctors are body shaming when pointing out how fat their patients are.
@Dan-gs3kg
@Dan-gs3kg 4 ай бұрын
@@mrmaxcarter2306 that's a projection largely by the doctors. In practice what happens is that these doctors are hazed for several years to follow the medical guidelines in spite of observable reality and documented experience. If reality doesn't follow theory, then reality is wrong: These patients are not following the standard diet, and that's why they are fat. Much like these doctors, patients are taught for more than half their life to listen to authority figures. And as we see with the Soviets, authority is always right, you must lie, you must get results no matter the cost. This often results in anorexia, which kills a lot more than cancer, because the doctor is always right. On the flipside, a mentor-student relationship is a lot healthier between doctor and patient, and less authoritarian. Eating disorders, even treatment resistant anorexia nervosa, is treated with simply meat. Participation and compliance to simply meat is also very high. Moreso if you have a discussion about the false idol of "moderation" in regards to human health. There is optimal, there is practical, but neither involve moderation, just effort.

@@mrmaxcarter2306That’s not always true. There are many who commented that they followed advice religiously and things weren’t getting better. So their doctors would accuse them of not being truthful about changing their diets. But then they find carnivore on their own and find healing. And when they show dramatic improvement at their next bloodwork and the doctor asks what have they been doing, they get admonished. Or when the patient asks about the carnivore diet, they get offended and say they went to medical school and act like how dare you question me?

At its worst, my fasting blood sugar was 308. My doctor was going to prescribe a Sulfonaurea and insulin. I challenged her back with the only things that really help is diet, exercise and weight loss. She asked me why I haven’t don that. That stung. We agreed to come back in 3 months to re-evaluate. I became a KETO monk warrior. When I returned (KETO and intermittent fasting) my A1c was 5. my fasting blood sugar was about 90. She wasn’t happy with my cholesterol, but was thrilled with my results. I have gone from 274 pounds (in my birthday suit) to 196 today.

I'm worried it's my Intermittent Fasting I'm doing 23 Hours fasting everyday since 18 Jan With the Carnivore diet it's 8Feb today I only lost 9 pounds In 20 Days I'm the same weight as you when you started ? Is there a Point where you just lose pounds like it's nothing ? My carb intake is About 15-25 a days but it's coffee not sweets etc. Some people say it's because I'm only eating once a Day so my body keeps my food / Fat cause I don't eat alot ?.

I got diagnosed with gestational diabetes. The doctors require you to eat a minimum of 170g of carbs a day. If your body can’t tolerate that amount distributed among each meal/ snack then you must be put on insulin. Which is outrageous. I was doing keto prior 3 months prior to pregnancy and continued low carb-ish before I got diagnosed. I was only 5lb overweight and exercise regularly. I told them I would not be eating that many carbs. I ate an average of around 90 a day and focused on eating nutrient dense foods. Because of this, I had a very good, easy pregnancy, much better than my first where I was very swollen and achey. The doctors will fear monger you into believing your baby needs that many carbs. And the women in GD support forums on FB perpetuate that notion, as well as other horrible advice. My baby was born 3 weeks ago as healthy as can be.

Hi Dr Berry I went keto/ low carb over 2years ago. I was a type 2 diabetic on insulin with a Hba1c of 9 ( before insulin it was 12) when I started. My last Hba1c was 5.5 off all medication. I lost 133lbs of weight but for the last 4months my weight loss has stalled although I am still obese. My Blood sugars remained normal but I have just started carnivore. Before starting I spent time checking the research and the pitfalls and prepped my larder and mindset. I have 30lbs to lose which I am confident I will do. I was found a diabetic cookbook on the free second-hand bookshelf in a store which had recipes to make doughnuts and cakes I tore it up and sent it to recycling so it was taken out of circulation the carb count was phenomenal. Here's to a great 2024 for everyone.

Please read the Virta health studies. And look for lectures from the Virta team. According to Steve Phinney, they were able to completely reverse a majority of the TTDB, but of those that had diabetes for a long time (decades), many were still required to maintain with metformin. The beta cells in your pancreas die off with long time TTDB and you won’t be bale to make enough insulin, even with a keto diet.

My doctor preaches the mediteranean diet to me in order to get me to discontinue meat-centered lifestyle, explaining the importance of including lots of vegetables, grains, etc. He doesn't realize that I am from the region, born and raised there and I still visit my family regularly who eat lots of fish, pork, goat, lamb, some beef, seafood, butter, cured hams, eggs, olive oil, with sides of light vegetables - and only small amounts of heavier carbs that are prepared ancestrally. Most doctors only repeat the echo chamber.

My Spanish family living in Spain eat steak, pork, lam, eggs, fish AND salads ( tomato, onion, garlic, with olive oil and vinegar in their salad ). Every dish with meat, fish and so on at lunch is with this salad! ). I think the meditarean diet is completally misunderstood! Meat free, fish free is only for Spanish people who do not have money to buy it. But my family would never leave meat and fish, eggs...out of their diets. I mean the old generation now in their 80's. They eat bread, but only bagette with lunch. Or in the evening with eggs... Veggies yes, but again, far less...It is salad for most part together with the lunch. In apart plates. Tortilla with potatoes. Beans and other...bean- like dishes, but WITH MEAT, fish...eggs. Only...if they eat once in a while sweets ( rarely ), it IS VERY SWEET!

Me too. But it’s what they DON’T EAT that’s more important than what they do eat as part of the “Mediterranean diet”. People in the Mediterranean naturally eating this diet (you’ll find them in rural, coastal areas) don’t eat snacks. They eat their 2-3 meals a day and that’s it. You’ll find no chips, no candy, and no fast food in their homes. Minimally packaged foods. No “hamburger helper” and “Mac n’ cheese” in a box style foods. No hidden sugar added to everything to make things more palatable and addictive to consumers.

My husband has just been diagnosed with ‘pre diabetes’, his doctor recommended cutting processed and sugary foods, great but went on to recommend he eat grains (a ‘well balanced diet’ 😮) I’m disappointed with the lack of education by his doctor who didn’t explain to him the connection between eating carbs and the insulin response. Also, my daughter is a medical student and is being fed mainstream dogma around diet and medication. I hope she will be smarter than the system she is in.

Gary Taubes saved my husband life with his book Good Calories. He had 3 stokes and was diabetic. 180 pounds. 8 months of feeding him according to the experts and he was getting worse. 210 pounds. Changed both of our diets and removed seed oils. Think he saved my life as well. My life of starvation was hell. And I was still fat. Over 14 years now. Will never go back to low fat hell. Thank you Gary.

A Dr. I used in the past told me to keep rice or pasta on the stove and eat frequently throughout the day in an attempt to lose weight and drop my cholesterol. Blows my mind because I lost 40lbs on carnivore over the last 8 or so months. I just got a CGM and my sugars spiked to over 200 after I ate rice!! If I had listened to her back then, I would be a full blown diabetic now!! I asked my brother's doctor to prescribe a dietician to talk to his family about diet, because he is overweight and our dad is diabetic (also his patient). He laughed and ordered a ultrasound for my brother instead. Sure enough, my brother has some issues. Doctors don't even know that they don't know!!

Although I could be wrong, my understanding is the following: As strange as it seems health insurance companies do not always benefit from improved health. Thanks to government regulation they have caps on how much they can profit over their payouts. Therefore, the only way to grow their profit in the _long term_ is to grow their payouts -- i.e. for the general population to become sicker and/or healthcare to become more expensive. In any given year they might profit from healthier customers, but if they profit too much they'll have to lower their rates the following year.

A few years ago I was walking 8 miles a day, took myself off insulin and lost 115 pounds. I started struggling with breathing and ended up needing a heart stent. They put me on blood thinners which caused blood in my urine. I had kidney cancer, they removed my right kidney and my remaining kidney is in stage 3 CKD. I never could get my health back because they put me back on insulin. I told them I did not want to gain the weight back. They actually told me it would be better to be obese than have high sugars. I was gaining 10 pounds a week and never could bring my sugar down because of the weight gain. I cut my glucose from 220 units a day, and started taking 60 units a day and started Carnivore. Although still high, but no worse than the higher dosage, I believe this is going to work this time.

I had a strong talk with myself about health, heart disease and alzheimer's and immunity.. 9 months ago I decided it was now or never. I got off commercial and processed foods. I dumped sugars. Stopped snacking on carbs. Gave up bread bc I noted I bloated a couple of hours after I ate it. I love my eggs and arugula, steak, chicken and salmon. I was sedentary and started walking modestly. @@bonnieleary1197 I'd call it moderate. A lot of the science has been discussed on Dr. Berry's site, so the terms are probably familiar to anyone who is a regular listener. I haven't finished the book yet, but I have really learned a lot about how we got to where we are today. I'm noncompliant, as my health care provider has most likely labeled me because I refuse to take medication. The historical discussion is really helpful, because now I understand where the emphasis on diabetes drugs--especially insulin--came from, and I feel more capable of defending my position to my provider. Can you request it from your library? That way you can look through it without the worry of the expense. I suspect you'd get a lot out of it, even if some of it is over your head.

Speaking as a person who got rid of high blood pressure by going low carb (probably just at the beginning of prediabetes), I am very upset that my doctor did not mention this as a possibility. I learned from somebody else who experienced success. Covid preyed on essentially those with comorbidities. It was a perfect opportunity to at least mention that it is possible to reverse many of them and make us less vulnerable to infection. It was a huge failing of public health on top of the huge failure in addressing root causes for our poor metabolic health and our overtaxed health care systems. I now basically boycott the industrial food and pharmaceutical systems. I have zero regard for public health and every so called public expert needs to be put under the microscope and treated very sceptically.

Whenever I go to a funeral and the family requests donations to the AMA, ADA, or ACA in lieu of flowers I give them a giant middle finger. No way I'm contributing to these cartels.

I’ve been type 1 for over 50 years and only in the past three years have I gotten good control of my blood glucose - by going almost carnivore. For a while my A1C was well under 5.0%, and now I’m annoyed because it’s gone up to 5.3% largely due to a sloppy diet.

Read the Sacred Cow . It thoroughly explains the facts of farming plants vs animals and how they affect the environment. Animals are much more regenerative to the earth.

@ 1:07:30 Sometimes, our brains simply reject information that doesn't fit what we already believe. For example, 30 years ago, when I first heard about the Atkins diet, I thought it was crazy talk and criminal malpractice. Now, I know better, but it makes me wonder how many other things I'm wrong about.

Great conversation. Thanks! If you can question everything and are gifted enough not to be blindly influenced by dogma, the brain goes straight to the logical most optimal source of practical information. Automatically taking the 'road less traveled'. It's not others who are most dangerous to your well-being, it's your own belief system in denial. Thank you Dr. Berry and Mr. Taubes for all your important work. I'm a great admirer of you both.

What about the environmental impact of all the medical care that diabetics require? I wish someone would address that.
