This Book really highlights the difference between Anakin and Obi-Wan as well, Anakin internalizes his problems and lets them fester like an untreated wound until they explode, while Obi-Wan takes them and lets the force have them, its ironic that the Chosen One has such difficulty releasing his feelings to the force, while Obi-Wan someone that wasn't considered all that noteworthy by most masters when he was a Youngling is able to do so with ease.

I remember seeing a translation of R2D2 talking to Luke before they went to Dagobah, and it went something along the lines of R2D2 asking Luke what they were going to do next. Usually whenever R2's speech is seen on a monitor, it's just general talk that you would expect from a droid. The funniest translated R2 speech in my opinion is when he was begging Anakin to turn around when he was about to go through the Naboo blockade.

Just as a note, the scene of Kenobi and Yoda entering the Jedi Temple was different in the film. In a deleted scene it's actually the clones who try to disguise themselves as Jedi so hunchback Ewan was unfortunately not shot.

While i do agree that this honestly isn't the way i'd have done all this, like i feel anakin's fall needs a lot of work. one thing that i feel isn't mentioned enough is that anakin is on the clock too. like according to his visions she dies in childbirth, and given that she gives birth like a day after this, like they had to be expecting any day. so when sidious says only when you're strong enough in the dark side can we save her, anakin has no time, and basically has to cannonball into the dark side full force. now characterwise we can say killing younglings is just so far out of the realm for him, but in a practical sense, he's doing the worst he can to mire himself in the dark cause he has no time. like i said i don't love this lol. but it adds a little a think to his fall. Love the video and love the discussion! you guys are the best!

This is actually a fair point I hadn't considered before. It doesn't excuse Anakin because what he does is reprehensible but this is an aspect that would help wear him down in combination with all the other factors such as sleep deprivation etc. It makes him more desperate than people think because in his mind he needs a solution now.

for the anakin and obi wan fight. matt said something in an earlier vid i agree with. from the movies, you never get a sense of why anakin is the chosen one. on screen he never does anything beyond the pail really. nothing that outstrips everyone around him i had the thought when playing the game while ago lol when he jumps off the antenna. in the movie, it's not like an oh shit this guy is insane moment. it's just kinda oh he jumped back kinda mehly. in the game, anakin like launches like a rocket. idk if it would play well on screen but in the game, that felt like a holy shit what will it take to stop him moment. to me that's what the whole mustafar duel should have been. anakin going way beyond anything we've seen before and obi just barely holding on. weathering the storm. anakin should have been pulling wild insane force feats that were just awe inspiring. cause that's another element of this fight the movie doesn't make clear. yes this fight determines the fate of the galaxy blah blah. but what should really be coming across on obi wan's side is, oh shit, this has to end here and now, because vader is only going to get stronger if i fail today. like right now, he's still training and learning to harness the dark, today is the only day we have a chance of stopping him. cause if he wins, nothing in this galaxy is going to stand a chance. and him being insane with the force powers and abilities during the fight would have bolstered that. like oh you think he's a threat now? just wait.

59:44 I think it was a combination of things that prevented most Jedi from sensing this. The first is the shroud of the Dark Side has been cast, diminishing the Jedi's perceptions. They couldn't see through Palpatine, a Sith Lord hiding in plain sight, for decades, so I wouldn't be surprised that most were unable to see the deception of the clones when Order 66 came through. The second is that some of the clones had been with the Jedi for years in the war, maybe even at the very start, and had achieved a degree of trust and respect. But when the order came through, it would confuse the Jedi for a couple of seconds and those seconds are enough for the Jedi's defenses to drop. You see this with Ki-Adi Mundi on Mygeeto during the montage. Third is that most of Jedi are in the middle of a campaign or battles when this is occurring and the presence of danger can shift at any moment. Most Jedi on the field wouldn't realize what had shot them until it was too late such as what we see in the montage. From pages 696-697 the book even describes that the Clone Wars was the perfect Jedi trap with the perfect noose to trap them in: the clones. "With the Jedi Order overextended, spread thin across the galaxy, each Jedi is alone, surrounded by whatever clone troops he, she, or it commands. War itself pours darkness into the Force, deepening the cloud that limits Jedi perception. And the clones have no malice, no hatred, not the slightest ill intent that might give warning. They are only following orders." I think that the reason that Sidious/Palpatine wanted Luke by his side is for the same initial reason that he wanted Anakin: to control this very powerful person in the Force. Just like how Anakin was the perfect prize of the Jedi that he twisted around his finger as Sidious and Palpatine, so too did he want to do the same to Luke since he is the perfect prize of the Rebellion. To me, Sidious is someone who always wants control; he wants to be the ruler of the galaxy, to bend the Force to his will, to have all the power. He feels threatened by Luke's presence and seeks to control him, but if he can't then he will destroy him. Yay! You've finished it! I can't wait to the next review for comics and books.
@bobkalle5662
@bobkalle5662 5 жыл бұрын
1:33:15 Purely speculation, but it would have been interesting if Palpatine actually cared more about power, than himself. The strongest shall rule, and it happens to be Palpatine. However should someone more powerful, with no chains, come along, then that individual should rule (Anakin and Luke). It's plausible that Palpatine would be accepting his fate, if it meant turning Yoda to the Dark Side. Yoda and Palpatine are about on par, but the difference between these two is that the latter has no restrains. You don't have real power until you break free from your shackles.

I love the part with the hologram in the temple in the book so much. cause in the movie i consider that to be like the shining example of how poorly it was done. cause obiwan watches anakin murdering and is just like "Oh it can't be." like, he;s a tremendous actor but that scene falls so flat on its face. there's no punch to it, cause his reaction in the movie is so chill. jedi or no this would shatter most peoples worlds and he reacts to it in the movie like someone took the last piece of pizza before he could! and in the book its so much more resonant and powerful.

“Can you imagine being the guy who had to do the CGI for this with Yoda?” Well, it would have been better than whoever was on the CGI team for “The Last Jedi” that SOMEHOW came to the conclusion that the decision of animating an alien with fucking udders full of milk for Jake Skywalker (that is simply NOT Luke Skywalker in that movie, don’t even try to convince me that it is; you will fail) to spend a minute sucking on was worth the damn CGI money at all.

In the movie when bail witnesses the death of the padawan, and speeds away. As he takes off, one of the clones orders the others to let him go. The line I believe is “Don’t worry about it, let him go” but you can’t hear the line very well because of the noise of the speeder plus the musical score being slightly overpowering. It’s almost a muffled line. As a kid I was confused as to why they would let him live and escape.

Random Jedi A: "Oh no Drallig and Ti are down, we are surrounded, is there nothing we can do ?" Random Jedi B: "Well technically there is one powerful person left and we have nothing to loose." Unleashes Kar Vastor Kar: "What ? We some kinda... Suicide Squad ?" Unlike Mace vs Anakin there are a bunch of reasons why this fight would not fit, but it could still make for a fun, pulpy short story. I think part of Stovers weird tonal changes is that he has a natural tendency towards more dark and serious stories like Shatterpoint or NJO Traitor, but the Star Wars books he grew up with and appreciates the most are the more pulpy pre-Zahn stories, which Luke Skywalker and the Shadow of Mindor was supposed to be a love letter to. The moment where Anakin goes to Mace is probably my favorite improvement over a scene in the movie. Also I agree with the point that various members of the Council Forcecast have made that Vapaad can not necessarily work with someone who uses the dark side in a cold Dooku-like manner so it would not necessarily allow Mace to match any sith, although in practice I can not think of a detached sith strong enough that Windu could not match him.

I cant help but wonder if the Legends Star Wars Expanded universe would be as good if it were not for the existence of the prequels as they are. While they are certainly bad in so many ways there are so many interesting an unique concepts that they have allowed for such a rich expanded universe to exist and thrive under creators who were talented enough to efficiantly execute Lucas's mad, stupid and occasionally genius ideas. Would the EU be just as rich and vibrant if Lucas wasnt really involved? Possible but I am not sure. Despite all their flaws I am glad they exist if it meant the existence of some of the content of this EU aswell. What do you guys think? Waa it worth having 3 bad movies in exchange for so much good relating content?

Reti4 - Without question. It has always been one of my major, not *defenses* per se, but arguments for the prequels. They provided an immense amount of definition to an otherwise vague base for what the Star Wars Galaxy was supposed to look and feel like, how it was supposed to work. With the ideas introduced by even just the Phantom Menace alone, creators were able to run wild with a whole host of material and grow the EU into the monolith it became. The films are bad, but they deserve a hell of a lot more credit than they get for what they gave us overall.

@@Reti4 There does appear to be a diamond hidden DEEEEP in the rough of the prequels. That allowed for such a great EU to exist. One that unfortunately I just dont see in the new movies. While i truly love the eu i just cant seem to find myself Influnced by it when i view new canon. Although i do think disney should start makeing more eu material so characters we loved can continue thiere stories. shoot im probably gonna comment alot XD talking about order 66, i always thought it'd have been easier to buy if the clones were portrayed more like they were in the microseries. like if every clone division had a squad of those dudes? yeah i could buy these like spec ops clones are a match for a jedi. with the element of surprise and okay idk if this is ever gone into, but that had to be like a secret training regiment right? Like this is how you fight a jedi? Oh well regardless that'd have been easier to swallow cause in the movies, and especially in tcw, the clones are rather meh. it seems they're pretty matched with the droids where a clone should be worth like a hundred droids. like they should be, so far a step above an average soldier like by miles.

Did Yoda sense the attack of the clones-or was he more of a benefactor of knowing Palpatine was the Sith Lord. If possible-all the Jedi should have been communicated with about this knowledge-as a form of insurance against the potential failure of Mace Windu’s group against Palpatine.

As for Dooku being a “public” Sith Lord, I don’t think he has ever claimed that title to the galaxy at large. To the galaxy isn’t that more of a title the Jedi used to describe him.
@GreyJedi91
@GreyJedi91 5 жыл бұрын
Perhaps, but the public face of the Separatist faction which the Republic has been at war with for years is known to be Dooku. And if we're following along with the line of thought that Palpatine could be put on trial for war crimes, his flimsy defense about religious persecution wouldn't hold under pressure. Not under the claim that the Jedi are committing some sort of hate crime or oppression based on bigotry at any rate. That's a claim the Jedi would be able to refute handily. At this point the Jedi should be able to prove Dooku was a Sith Lord to the senatorial courts for a number of reasons. And even if there are those in the galaxy who don't know what the sith stand for, Dooku has been waging a campaign against the jedi, trained a number of Jedi hunters, and faced off with Jedi generals like Yoda, Kenobi, Windu etc. Palpatine himself said at the start of this story that Kenobi and Skywalker should get help because Dooku's a sith lord. How would the politician know? From the perspective of the court He'd either be going on reports from the Jedi or have to have been in league with the Sith/Seps. No matter what there's a clear chain of evidence linking the sith and the Seps and sidestepping Connor's speculation about the laws having been somehow changed without the Jedi being aware...the Sith are at this point in time an illegal organization with a history of waging war against the Republic. Great Hyperspace War, Exar Kun, Revan and Malak, Brotherhood of Darkness, the Sith empire in the Unknown regions etc. I agree that Dooku probably never proclaimed himself as a Sith to the galaxy at large...but his association with that order should be highly provable in a court of law at this point in the war. Which would basically tarnish the Sith order's reputation or staking of claim for legitimacy in the eyes of the Senate.

Do you guys still hold ROTS Anakin as a tier 3? I’m curious, because it sounds from your discussion that you consider him at least as good as ROTS Kenobi (who you consider a tier 2), probably even superior. And we saw him dominate Dooku earlier on (you consider a tier 1.5). It just doesn’t fly for me that ROTS Anakin is a tier 3, and I’m curious if that’s still your opinion?

Traj his tactical approach in the Mustafar fight was only stupid because he was completely out of it mentally. On a normal day, he was far from stupid. Only used his full potential twice? Yeh, every time he fought in ROTS e.g. during his prime he could consistently rely upon that level of power (that dominated Dooku, sacked the entire Temple, and whilst massively hindered almost killed Kenobi several times). You don’t need a complex tactical approach when you can bulldozer your opponents, which he would to anyone else they place in tier 3, and imo most people they hold in tier 2. So in your opinion not being some tactical genius takes you down from consistently being tier 1.5 or higher (based on all his showings in ROTS) to being a tier 3? Like I say, that simply doesn’t fly for me.

Jensaarai1 I very much disagree. It is perfectly reasonable for him to coast by on raw talent if that’s all he needs. He wrecked Dooku, was considered by Lucas and Gillard to be on the level of Yoda and Sidious, was dominating Kenobi during their fight, wrecked Drallig, rag-dolled Ventress after taking her seriously, etc etc. Fisto vs Anakin? Anakin no question Mundi vs Anakin? Anakin no question Jiin vs Anakin? Anakin no question. I don’t understand how you can place Anakin on the same level as other tier 3’s when he has so clearly surpassed them in ROTS. The argument that ‘he only relies on direct approach so he is limited’ seems silly to me. He relies on the direct approach because that’s all he needs to be able to overwhelm anyone you place in tier 3 or 2 (imo ofc). I think you put way too much emphasis on tactics, because they become somewhat irrelevant when the opponent simply cannot contend with their output. Anakin would have broke Kenobi’s defence if he had stood his ground. The ROTS video game (which Gillard was directly involved in the creation of) depicted Anakin overwhelming Windu directly. In the ROTS novel, the council, on separate occasions, agreed that Anakin was possibly strongest of any of them, and that he would have the best chance against Sidious. Even before he drew on his anger, Anakin nearly Killed Dooku in just 3 moves. Towards the end of the fight, he filled Dooku’s entire field of vision with his lightsaber. He did way better against Dooku than Yoda or windu have done. I guess my overall point would be, there is a point in which your approach become irrelevant. Anakin’s approach is very direct and simple yes.... because that’s all he needs in order to beat his opponent! Anyways, it’s all a matter of opinion, I just thought I’d voice mine, and I was interesting in seeing if any of your opinions had changed because it sounded like you rated him higher than tier 3 in the video.

1:04:00 One scene I really do like is Yoda's reaction. Just that incredulous and broken expression as he feels all of his beloved jedi being killed. I still really feel bad whenever I watch it. I was never Yoda's biggest fan, I felt he came across as entitled and obnoxious in the OT but I like him far more in the prequels and this scene is where I fell in love with him.

45:13 This. THIS. The Prequels do not feel as a tragedy, because Anakin's fall is due to sheer stupidity over a selfish goal, especially since his marriage with Padme isn't a healthy, stable one. It also bothers me that the Clone Wars conflict didn't seem to affect Anakin that much in any significant degree. The CW should have been tipped in favor of the Separatists, with the Republic on brink of losing, forcing Anakin to tap into the Dark Side (Palpatine shouldn't have controlled the Separatists).

bob kalle Why should Palpatine not have been the one truly controlling the separatists? His previous apprentice was the damn public face for them. Palpatine’s supposed to be a master manipulator like any good Dark Lord of the Sith worth their power. What better way to illustrate that than by having him controlling both sides during a galactic war? For him to not do it would make ZERO narrative sense.
@bobkalle5662
@bobkalle5662 5 жыл бұрын
@@gumgumdookuin7963 Because Anakin should have been an actual tragic hero, and not just a selfish prick from the start. If the Separatists were winning, that wouldn't just affect the Republic, but also Padme, whom's allegiance is to the this government. Nute Gunray would be eager to have her killed. Make Anakin disillusioned with how the Jedi and Republic do fight the war, and be more and more accepting of violent and brutal measures to get things done, for reasons more than him seeing loved ones as possessions and not individuals. Palpatine is just as evil, and we the audience know it, but it shouldn't mean the other characters are stupid. Anakin should't join someone who pulled the strings on *both* sides of the war, and thus got his loved ones in danger. Also, the ditching of Dooku should make Anakin skeptical of Palpatine's trustworthiness. Sure, Anakin viewed the Chancellor as a father figure, but the mentioned points should completely ruin his positive view on the man.

I agree, Mace's reaction to Sidious flailing about would've been hilarious. I think Anakin had an issue with killing the CIS council because they were more defenseless compared to lightsaber wielding Jedi. 59:54 Was literally playing Spider-Man PS4 when I heard that. The film has a Clone tell the others to let Bail go. Anakin slaughtering the CIS council is one of the scenes where the movie does it better at least over the book. He should be more enthusiastic to kill them however I prefer his quiet persona in the film over the portrayal of him in the novel during his rampage. His lines in the ROTS video game are less worse. I could see Quinlan Vos or a dark side Kit Fisto making such jokes or puns though. 1:22:24 Imaging Jedi spirits in heaven watching Yoda and Obi-Wan and Matt's impression of Kenobi gave me a good laugh. The original scene of Obi-Wan and Yoda fighting clones were them going up to a group of disguised troopers in Jedi robes. Obi-Wan had his hood on for stealth. This made it in the Lego Star Wars game. The original scene is here at 2:05: www.dailymotion.com/video/xs4dmx Sidious making people repeat what he says brings up so many funny images. A scene in the book I love is how Obi-Wan and Yoda give each other the go signal to confront the Sith they're facing. It's a great moment when Yoda goes in thinking that his almost 900 years of life have led up to this. I also like the original animatics of Yoda VS Sidious. Even in the ROTS Yoda has his lightsaber when getting into the speeder. I agree with Connor. I have the book where it shows Yoda's saber stored away and like the idea that he never had a need to use it. Yeah I agree on Mace VS Anakin being a thing. Antoine's idea is pretty good. On what Matt said the original animatics had Anakin using lava. The "Forever" variation of how it feels to be Anakin is one of the best moments for the book.

TheNuisanceBird I always thought that just after murdering the Separatist Leadership was the first moment he’s had since lobbing Mace’s hands off to actually think about what he’s done. If you think about it, he went from Palpatine’s office to betraying the order and murdering his compatriots, going to see Padmé then going to take care of the Separatists, that’s probably the first moment for him to just think about what he’s done
