I was using ROC retinol and recently switched to Avene’s RetinAL eye cream. I’ve noticed so much of a difference in about 6 weeks with it! When I’m out of all of my retinol products, I’m going to the full face of RetinAL by Avene. I’m loving their products! My dermatologist recommended them since I can’t afford Skinceuticals until I start working again.

What are the points of conversion though? What activates them? Does that happen automatically in the skin as it's absorbed? Is another ingredient/product needed? If so is that ingredient automatically in the retinal product?
@vickiebenson7980
@vickiebenson7980 8 ай бұрын
It happens automatically. Your body will always attempt to break down compounds into their simplest forms before they can be utilized. It's kinda like how starch is broken down into glucose first before it is utilized by your cells.

I can tell you this. Since it needs to be converted, and by the time it actually has been so when on skin, it's pretty useless. Vitamin A is sensitive for daylight, and if in need to be on skin for an amount of time before getting active, it has lost most of it's potential.

@@JL-th1nbmany estheticians have been able to help patients that derms couldn’t. Derms can overdo it and not care for the barrier which is vitally important. @sarahcameron4480

I was also confused by this so just did some research, essentially once you’ve applied it to your skin your body does the work of conversion! If you’re interested in a more scientific explanation here’s a more simple one: “First, retinol is oxidised to form retinal. Then retinal is oxidised to generate retinoic acid, which binds to retinoid receptors of skin cells-a step necessary to allow it to enter the nucleus and bind with DNA. It is the action of retinoic acid on the DNA that accounts for all the biological effects on the skin.” So the oxidisation happens after application with oxygen exposure then it is absorbed into the skin and binds the the relevant receptors in your skin cells (which then send your body instructions, in this case about cell turnover and cell health!) Hope that helps! Here’s the link if you want to read more :)) bdng.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/A-Star-Vitamin-A.pdf

Because it is!! Retinaldehyde only has the one conversion to Retinoic acid, not Tretinoin. Tretinoin is theRx version. The one conversion means less irritation etc. I recommend it to my clients all of the time because it is better in protecting the barrier for less disruption and adjustment time.

She also prescribed me a cleanser with 1% salicylic acid, glycolic acid, vitamin C and tea tree oil. At first, I thought that a retinoid can’t be used with AHA/BHA. But the combo of the cleanser and Epiduo, with my moisturizer and sunscreen also, has improved my skin texture a lot! Before, I used Cetaphil cleanser with Epiduo but the skin texture made it worse and my breakouts never stopped appearing. Now that I changed my cleanser, I only had minimal breakouts and my only issue now is my dark marks/PIH, which could take months before they gradually fade. My dermatologist also told me that I need to shift to Tretinoin 0.05% once I consumed the Epiduo.

It’s fairly new in terms of the research but basically, granactive retinoid is a retinoic acid ester which means it falls somewhere in the middle of conversion & potency. But again, the research is comparatively young. Or in other words: Retinyl ester (retinyl palmitate) -> retinol (.3%/.5%/1%) -> retinoic acid ester (granactive retinoid) -> retinal (retinaldehyde) -> retinoic acid (tretinoin)
