The high heat and humidity must tire a person out, even if they have to have the AC running 24/7.....Phnom Penh must be relatively wonderful for retirement compared to Saigon or Bangkok that are probably as bad as New York City, even if Siem Reap is much better and relaxing for retirement. Especially for people of our generation who are looking for a relaxed, quiet retirement life.

I think you should change visa agents James. I don’t pay for express services and have gotten the last three 1 year ER visa extensions for $290 in 7-9 days. We pay 730 riel/18 cents per kilowatt hour. We have a water well. I compared the raw rate of electricity where I come from. It was 7.5 cents per kilowatt-hour but after taxes and many fees it was over 25 cents per kilowatt-hour.

Sounds like a good life you had over there. -- I'm 74 and running out of time now - still in the US and unhappy with the ridiculous inflation ! -- Nice to know there are places like SR that prices are so reasonable. The Philippines is a much better option than Thailand ! - Maybe - better than Cambodia for some ? Many live there for $1000/mo. and less ! -- Not sure ''why'' you haven't given the Philippines a try now that your retired ? -- A tourist visa is enough for a trial run over there ? - - - Appreciate your efforts here. 🙏

Good video mate, however, I disagree Thailand being more expensive, it depends a lot on your choices. Happy to hear that Cambodia is a good option though. I live in a small house in a good location in Nong Khai for 6,000 baht a month ($167), bills with aircon most of the day about 2000 baht ($56), multiple entry retirement visa with agent 29,000 baht ($806) first year, then 12,000 baht ($334), food very cheap from 50-60 baht (~$1.5) a meal and up, small bottle of beer in the bar from 60 baht up ($1.6), 35-40 baht ($1.1) in supermarket. Reporting is every 90 days and can be done online, no need to go to immigration. I am in Nong Khai I could, if I want to go Laos and then I don't need reporting for another 90 days.

hello here-comes-sate, very interesting reply, thank you. i have spent some pleasant time in vientiane. i like that area but might feel a bit more secure living on the south bank of the mekong. may i ask: your property rental agent, your visa extension agent, are you with a thai partner or solo, how often do you feel a need and for what purpose to visit udon thani or bkk? really appreciate any info you care to share about n.k.

How reliable is the electrical power grid system in Cambodia when there is constant high demand because of the heavy heat and humidity? The US and Canada always face brownouts because of very high demand on the grid system both in the summer and very cold times of the winter. So the system must get even more critical in a place like Cambodia!

@@jimellis1810 Amazing. You mean that Cambodia has managed to developed a very high quality electrical grid that can handle such high demand with the heat? I couldn't imagine how it would feel there in the summer if it failed.

A very nice looking city and certainly cheap enough. -- Not quite as cheap as the Philippines for cost of living. -- The weather -- in the Philippines > can also be much cooler an hour or so S of Manila @ 2000 ft elevation ! = Avg. 88 F & 66 F -- for hi & low. AC is seldom used by many. People too are super welcoming and friendly - speaking English as their 2nd language. + A 3 year tourist visa is cheap and easy. Many expats renew it repeatedly - and vacation out of the country every 3 years - 'repeatedly' ! -- 🤔 -- I really like Siem Reap a lot - but the excruciating heat and humidity - is just too much for my - ''old'' - body !!! -?-

When I spent 2 months in Phnom Penh I exclusively rode in cars, I think on Grab? Because I didn't see the tuks or motorcycles as worth the risk, I have no insurance, and the price difference is a joke compared to what I usually spend in a month visiting somewhere like Vienna or Paris Most of the cars that picked me up??? ELECTRIC cars made by the Chinese! BYD!
