I am single and live on less than 2K a month here in the great American corn belt. I have rent, car payment , etc, etc. It is not necessary to relocate to SE Asia when you have this in your backyard. I am going to snow bird in Philippines and this will come from savings but everyday expenses ( including some entertainment ) can be managed in the USA form a Social Security check if you avoid the coastal states and mega cities. My city is a major one but hardly Chicago.

Mike I been married to Filipina for 20 years and she still keeps saving coins in a jar even-though we own a Florida home mortgage free and I have 700K in my Fidelity retirement fund. I got a big laugh when I seen Janet with her coin jar. I guess that why we really love them. I be retiring early and moving to wife's country so enjoy the information you provide.

I don't have a budget, I just pay the bills as they come with auto pay from the bank. I do know that your bills are super cheap to what I pay. I usually pay about $200 for water, and the electric here is about $300 a month, I own the house but pay in property taxes and home insurance for about what your paying for rent. Lucky I have the income and savings to stay here in the USA, but those of more limited means could live better for less in the Philippines, I can see that.

Janet, just remember these words! “set it and forget it”. That’s what the slow cooker is for. 😂. I cook almost everything in a slow cooker. From “Nilagang baka”, “beef stew”, etc. It’s wonderful! Hi Mike and Janet. Great video. I live by myself in Butuan and have a similar single level budget. I like your comment on tipping. Filipinos work hard. I know locals who work 10 to 12 hour days 6 or 7 days a week. Their monthly income still comes in low (less than $200 a month), so tipping really helps them out.

I had a motorbike accident last year in the Philippines. It cost me 134,000 pesos all in to include surgery, doctors' fees, meds, etc. I am pretty healthy. @@mikesphilippineretirement Thanks. I just had a triple corrective procedure in a different country to correct the initial surgical procedures I had in the Philippines. The doctors in the Philippines did their best. However, they were ill equipped to handle shoulder re-construction and lack modern hardware equipment to properly stabilize a clean collar bone break. Healing well now, still love the Philippines and plan to semi retire there next year. You guys put out really great videos.

@@andgrayit is difficult to go from a high standard of living to a lower standard of living. One gets used to the comforts and one notices them when you don't have them as it can make one depressed. We are used to having hot water 24hours a day, central air, modern facilities, everything being clean and almost new etc..... And when you get old all those things are things we can't do without. It is difficult to live in a neighborhood where everything looks decrepit with thousands of wires hanging everywhere, different colors on buildings that are unpleasant to the eye, it all looks old and dirty. It is depressing as you feel you worked hard and this is what your life has boiled down to. It is not a great feeling. We don't have many years to live and we want to have the creature comforts and have a pleasant life the few years we have left. It is fine for a young person.

Hi Mike and Janet, I love watching your channel. I have been married to a Phillipna ( did I spell that correctly?) for 31 years. We met via pin pal and I brought her here on a fiancé visa. She is from a province in Davao, and most of her family is still there today. I have been supporting them (she and her then 10 year old son who I adopted) for most of that time, and have purchased a house and financed several college students there. It’s very gracious of you to share your finances and also answer questions from folks thinking about moving to the PI. Keep up the good work, and I’ll continue to watch… Dave

We're calculating our budget, again. But not relying on the high exchange rate. We always calculate at 55P=1USD, and at this time should have excess for the bank, and extras. We'll be moving in July, from our condo in Metro, at P23.5K, to a new duplex at P33.6/month, in Angeles City. Tentatively. We've been budgeting P35K for groceries, and that includes occasional outside meals. We've done okay with that, even considering my western food preferences. Thanks for the budget breakdown. Insurance however always concerns me. I just got through watching a gut wrenching video with Old Dog about his buddy Juells cancer diagnosis and essentially being given no more than a year tops to live. There's no hope, there's no money to even tey treatments and even if there was money one of the treatment... potential organ transplant is pretty much closed to foreigners. They need to get the transplant from a related family member. Which to me would make it worth it to maintain my medicare even while living overseas in the grand scheme of it $180-220/month is a great deal considering most people on medicare are at least 65. Getting medical coverage at that price at that age on the free market around the world is highly unlikely. I want somewhere in the world I can go to where there's hope.

I watched video few days ago. Very sad story. If you have any medical conditions don't even consider moving overseas to third world country. The USA is still the best.

Hi Mike. Just a strong suggestion….. why not buy a house/ build a house or buy a condo ( maybe on Janet’s family property? ) The 35 k rent could go a way towards one of those options Thoughts? Thanks Mark

Consider cutting the cable cord. At least 50% of Americans have cut cable. Use a streaming service such as Fubo, Sling, HuluTV or KZfaqTV. Many have free trials. I pay less than $100 usd per month for streaming TV and internet. I love the NBA and watch every game of the Celtics live ☘️.

@@mikesphilippineretirement Wow! Congratulations. I am impressed. You are 70 and have a wife and teenage boy, yet you spend nothing on medicine or vitamins. I was like that until age 60 and then things changed. I am a cancer survivor so maybe that makes a difference.

@mikesphilippineretirement yes do your calculation on what you take from the ATM to your actual bank ledger. Mine takes 2-3 days to settle out. But that's what I find about 1.5 php.

I think Asian women are beautiful. I’ve been with a few of them. They’re good company. However, as a non-Asian white European, I much rather prefer being with a woman that shares my same race, culture and heritage. It just makes life a lot easier overall. I say to each their own. I’ve been to China and Japan in Asia. The PH is a nice place. 👍🏻

Mike, I’m retired and I’d love living there or Thailand , although idk if I’d ever get the nerve to do it lol. I watch a lot of your videos these days, so I’m at least considering it. I have a lot of medical issues so I’d have to look closely at comprehensive medical care. Also, did you say Janet has a KZfaq ? Do you have a link? I’d be interested in seeing what she has to say from the perspective of a Filipino
