I am in my early 60s and retired at 53. Lots of people gave me pushback because they had difficulty grasping the concept of not working if you don’t have to. I looked at my life as stages. I earned everything I have now through a lot of hard work, but I owe it to myself to “stop and smell the roses” in my final stage of life. In my case I left the country after I retired and live in Latin America. It allowed me to get away from all the negative things happening in America while appreciating my new environment. I have yet to meet anyone who regrets retirement.

amen, I retired at 55 and never looked back. Some would say I just changed jobs, which was true but I-was doing what I chose to do.

That is so amazing, I’m trying to get onto the housing ladder at 40. I wish at 55 I will be testifying to similar success..

All depends what you do for a living. I'm an artist and at 51 have no intention of retiring anytime soon. I would get bored after a week.Retiring early is only possible if you can financially. Most people just can't. You also have to have something to get up for everyday. It doesn't mean 9-5 till you're 65 but doing something part time or similiar to keep you busy and motivated is essential.

I retired fairly early at 58 with no regrets and didn't look back. The freedom feels great. I have a pension, 457 plan and interest income which is more than enough. The only drawback is I have less freedom because I have to help take care of my old man who's 94.

i think working longer in your job till over 65 to 70 etc will wreak havoc on your health for whatever reason so retiring around 62 you can focus on health rest relaxation eating a sound healthy diet exercise/gym yoga will hopefully make you live a longer happier healthier life.

If you're single, no partner, very few friends, then retirement can be lonely.

Relationships are so critical during our entire life. But as people retire and end up living alone, it becomes harder for sure. I think that’s why we do so many videos and research on this topic. It’s critical to living a full life. Thank you Ann for commenting

About 5-years prior to your planned early retirement date in addition, to financial items there two other areas which, are also very important. The first is your weekly activity gym, walks in the park, talking classes at a local junior college, etc. The second is relationship building (church, clubs, non-profit groups, etc.) and a plan to explore new areas such as joining your local senior center or a travel tour group (smile ...smile).

Great video! I was fortunate to ease into retirement. Gave up full time gig at 44, 25 hours a week until 50, 6 hours a week until I give it all up next month at age 56. Ready to travel, watch grandkids, bike and swim 15 hours a week and visit friends.

That is fantastic advise! I want to do some long distance motorcycle rides that I know I won't be able to do later. I work with a guy who is 63 and has plenty of money- he says he wants to work "a few" more years just to be sure. I am 55 and almost fell in that trap but videos like these really let me know that it is ok and it is important. Thank you for what you are doing. Cheers,

This sounds like such a great plan. Jody and I are all about getting to the more active things on our list now versus later when it might be harder or even impossible.

Hello. Besides my partner, family and both of you, everyone else is warning me not to retire early and wait to get most of retirement. I'm 47 currently at 22years at my job under the Define Contribution retirement plan. My plan is to wait for 55 but knee arthritis has caught up with my active life.

I am 52 and I started planning my retirement two years ago in the dark days of the Pandemic. I am fully prepared financially, with activities, a full plan for time, etc. to retire in just over two years - the early part of 2025 at 54 years old. I think you NEED to go if you are the person who enjoys what life has to offer. Get out and do it. I am looking at it as a rebirth and new chance to live a third stage of life. Cheers!

Dont wait to travel . Do it when your in your 20, 30, 40's. Instead of putting an extra 2000 dollars into a IRA, put that into a trip. Even if you cant travel every year. You will have all those memories to look back on when your older.
