Just watching someone casting explosion on something for a date sounds fun, especially when it's on something you don't like.

Lots of people have said they think the ring just doesn't fit on that finger. In the books/manga the ring can change size, and she does a party trick by making it disappear and not knowing how to bring it back. So the scene was just continued clowning on Mitsurugi but in this episode I don't really get it without the punch line. Someone else pointed out that he didn't have his (cheat item) sword with him but Chris's spidey sense was feeling something at the castle. So this scene might just be to remind us he is around.
