Retro Commercials Vol 225 The 90's! (1999-HD)

The 90's. What a great decade. Some may say it's too new to call retro. Some may say it's perfectly fine and within their childhood past. I say, it's all good! The 90's presented a shifting of tides in the way commercials were made. Slowly moving away from the safe and wholesome style of commercials, the 90's represented a new, edgy format that opened up a whole new style of video marketing. Bright colors, wide angle shots, in your face advertising became all the rage. It still is today. I guess you could call it 'the gateway decade'.
In the upcoming 2-3 weeks, prepare yourselves for “The 90’s Commercials Extravaganza!”. But, of course, I will throw in the traditional 80's and earlier years to even things out every now and then. This series will contain 10 episodes.
This first set comes from a recording of South Park. So, sit back, and relax to a roller coaster ride of Retro Commercials! -Dave

I mean, for a game from 1998, it's aged better than some of its contemporaries. Hell, the gameplay still holds up, even if it's woefully simplistic compared to today.

I lived it, and remember the 90s well. Cassettes were cheaper than CDs, so I usually bought them instead, plus the Discman was unreliable and skipped too much at the slightest bump or movement. I became a master at being able to fast-forward and rewind the tapes in my Walkman to the exact song I wanted to hear.

@@thestranger9608see I beg to differ I think it was the real world. though the first season was groundbreaking, and the following seasons up to about season 5 were interesting to watch but then reality television took over MTV. You had road rules and then like real world versus road rules or something... Then it was just like all these scripted scenarios type shows and the only time we can watch videos was during TRL which wasn't that great. Unless you were up all night then you could watch a variety of videos. What is MTV doing now anyway?

I think of it like this, the point when *anything* officially becomes "nostalgia" is 2 decades after that time's passed. Not to-the-year, but the decade itself. That's why you have a lot of 50's nostalgia stuff in the 70's and a fair amount of 70's nostalgia stuff in the 90's. The time to get all nostalgic over the 90's has *already started*! Still, this was fun. These sort of channels rarely ever upload any commercials beyond, say, 1995 or '96 so this was quite refreshing. The late-90's, early-2000's was a REALLY interesting time for me, my later childhood years were starting and we finally got ourselves hooked up to the internet, so some of this stuff feels familiar in tone to the stuff I bumped into online just by going through plenty of American sites and getting deep into the culture surrounding that time (I'm from the UK). However? I must ask...considering what was said in this upload, was this capture taken New Year's Eve? Because if so, this upload's probably from 1998 instead. "Virus" came out January 1999 in the U.S., found that out from curious IMDB'ing. Fun upload, regardless! Sorry for the long comment too. xD

Yah but the squiggling, odd way it seems to have energy, potential energy yet never seems to go off, it fits perfectly with the shows premise, constant awkward tension and discomfort, people saying odd things, off timing to seem more realistic, its a deadpan style humor by avoiding the fact that's what you're doing
