After my electric watches video, I’ve gone further down the rabbit hole to look into how the LCD digital watch came about. This goes back to the origins of the tuning fork, integrated circuits, LED and Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD) and the golden era when Swiss, US and Japanese watchmakers and electronics companies were still in the field. The emergence of casio from its adventures with calculators is where we leave the story for other videos.

The story you hear is that the watch was essentially broken - I think he may have even thrown it. But yes you are right - it doesn’t necessarily come out in the clip.

Nicely presented my friend.... really enjoyed this one, especially the more depth in how it works ;) Would love to see a video on the beginning of the Casio empire to the point they hit watches, but their first calculators were something really different.. Could see your videos being used in schools also, maybe contact someone behind education, and who knows, you might have a new career ;) Cheers and big thumbs ;)

@@IlluminatingWatches If you need some original video of the DW-5000c anytime, then would be happy to help, as I feel you need to spin off that. I did a brotherhood of the vintage past, but I didn’t go into a massive amount of depth, just saying which ones were popular. Not owned a CASIOTRON, maybe because they’re on the small size, but have to be honest, I’ve really not looked into them, so your video will be brilliant ;) I remember my first calculator, it even had a number game on it.... a friend had the one with boxing on it, and wanted to trade for my Donkey Kong.... still thinking about that deal today LML ;-P The great side to your videos, is they’re timeless :)

@@WatchUP69MrRangeman super kind. The footage would stick out as too awesome though ha! I’m tempted to swerve the full deep dive into G-SHOCK as it’s a video that’s been done by many others and deserves its own focus. Lots of other angles of 80s Casio’s I’m looking forward to digging into!

@@IlluminatingWatches That's a nice way to compliment my videoing, so thank you... but the offer is open if you need the very first G-Shock from 1983... maybe you cover it differently with regards to shock proof watches in general :))

Excellent video, interesting subject and very clear delivery too. I was never really sure who did what in the early development of digital watches. It's interesting to know that the Swiss and other western countries were pioneers in developing new designs. I thought it was more the 'Far East' countries. Ps. I had trouble finding your channel on KZfaq because of all the other 'watch reactions' videos showing people reacting to things they are looking at. Maybe you could put your name in front of the title? 🤔🙂

Thanks! Yes I’ve somewhat regretted the name as it just gets buried in the algorithm. Perhaps adding to the title may help. Will give it a go!

Your video is the greatest tribute for digital watches, I started liking watches because of mechanicals but after I understood how great and far more reliable and accurate digitals are I totally switched to only G-Shocks, the only watches for true use in our days.

@@IlluminatingWatches in reality if there was a kind of biological evolution in watches the mechanicals would have been long gone, no meaning of existing except the status to the owner
