This was fun to watch. amazing how everything "just works" without any hardware conflicts.

The Z80 bus is quite impressive like that. I also chalk a lot up to RomWBW being well designed, and the RC2014/modules being well documented. And of course, good clean patient soldering if I may say so myself :P

I thoroughly enjoyed this tour, and congratulations on winning the competition with this video. I have a few versions of the RC2014 but so far haven't gone through with a permanent setup with a chassis / case + keyboard, I just love the design of the RC2014 backplane and modules and like to see that sitting on the desk in its own right. I'm the author of the 8x8 Life program btw and felt very proud to see that doing its thing. it's a shame your matrix isn't a little more visible.

Thanks so much for everything! I agree on the matrix, it is a shame. it was the last addition IIRC, replacing a standard digital IO. The floppy controller and it had to fight over that slot. I thought about the feasibility of reverse mounting the matrix in which case I could eliminate the voltmeter breadboard on the opposite end of the backplane. Anyway, thanks again; I really enjoy the 8x8 Life program.

Looks really cool. Are you emulating the S100 bus on your backplane?

Thank you! The RC2014 bus is also known as the RC BUS, is quite similar to the S100 bus. I am using the 'enhanced' bus to have a 2nd serial signal set among other things. Here's a good writeup on the bus itself smallcomputercentral.com/documentation/specification-rc2014-bus/

Probably explained in a previous video, but is the open frame your own build? I presume yes, especially to accommodate the C64 keyboard.

Yo your keyboard's thocking sound is delicious. What's the make/model of the keyboard you are using in this video?

Thanks :D It's a keyboard pulled from a Commodore 64 computer which was already raided for all the other parts but the case by the time I got it. So, short and simple answer; it's stock Commodore 64 Keyboard.
