Great reaction! Just think they recorded this separately (in 3 different States) during Covid. Also, Austin was singing to his then GF, now wife, who was in the studio where he recorded his part. His beautiful girlfriend was in the studio when he recorded this so he was able to sing directly to her. You're right, they don't just cover songs, they improve them.

I don't think you can compare it to the wonderful Percy Sledge original which has a very different feel, but it knocks any other cover out of the water. Austin has an extraordinary voice and Home Free gives everyone the chance to shine.

I think Michael Bolton’s version is as great. His soulful voice is incredible! In fact, Austin’s version is truer to Michael’s arrangement.

Austin nailed it . He gives himself completely here and also plays very well with the cameras. The great harmonies, deep bass and Adam Rupp's unbelievably freaking good beatboxing/vocal percussion/vocal sounds finish it all off for me. I think it sounds perfect because of all the different beautiful voices. I grew up performing Percy Sledge which I already loved. Then came Michael Bolton's performance where I couldn't say it was better. But this one from Home Free certainly is. Some suggestions: "End Of The Road" "Ring Of Fire" "How Great Thou Art" "Listen To The Music" "Blue Ain't Your Color" "Butts Remix" The originals " Dreamer" "Understand" And on Austin Brown chanel: Austin Brown and Rob Lundquist "Two Country singers try singing opera-Nessun Dorma" I am a real Home Fry from the Netherlands 😊

Yep, that was Mr Austin Brown, owner of one of the most remarkable voices out there, in any genre. He has his own channel, with gorgeous covers and his own originals, but recently he has been releasing on TikTok. I'm not a great country fan but his latest country stuff has gone viral and topped the country charts in the UK and elsewhere and reached number 7 in the US. This song meant a lot to him as he had recently started dating the woman he had been in love with for a long time and the joy is written all over his face. Previously he had not felt able to tackle it despite Tim (the bass) urging him to give it a go. Shout out too to Adam Rupp, the beatboxer, who really holds this one together. It's a song which can easily start to drag but not with Adam in charge! The harmonies are always remarkable, particularly since this was recorded in lockdown, with the guys recording their contributions in their homes in three different states and only Austin in the studio.

One of my favorite old school covers they do is the O'Jays Love Train. They incorporated their fans dancing in the video along with themselves. The other thing about the Home Free guys are they don't take themselves too seriously so a lot of their videos are full of fun and funny times too, even though they also have videos that carry deeper meanings. Personally, when I want to have a pick me up, their cover of JT's Can't Stop the Feeling and the video is just a happy experience.

I agree. This is better than the original. I always felt that Bolton seemed to be straining to get the high notes and it was uncomfortable for him. With Austin I don't feel that one bit. It just flows. Best version ever. Great reaction! Thanks for doing it.

Austin did a fabulous job of this classic song. Loved Percy Sledge's version, but this was taken to another level. I think it is also better than Michael Bolton's version. And remember this was done during quarantine, so the guys weren't even together. The backing harmonies are great, along with Tim's bass. And Adam's vocal percussion is outstanding. Drummers have often commented on just how realistic his sound is. This is why these guys are my favorite a cappella group.

This is much better than Bolton's. Austin just exudes 'love' in this - for the music, for the woman, for the idea of being in love; Bolton never accomplished that. Austin's voice rings, Bolton's always sounds strained to me when he does this one.

You want some old school from Home Free try Love Train ( R&B/Soul )O’Jays 1972 Listen To The Music( (Rock)The Doobie Brothers 1972 Delta Dawn ( country) Tanya Tuckers Version 1972 I find they take old songs and make them new again they have quite a few covers of songs from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.

You will know the name of the member singing lead after this one! Lol, One of Austin Browns' finest vocals ever! I would definitely be nervous if Homefree did a cover of any song that I sang, after hearing the classics they have tackled, and not only made them their own, they did them justice!! But as a writer OMG! I'd be like PLEASE Homefree Please! cover my song! Can't Stop The Feeling by Justin Timberlake or any of the Johnny Cash covers done by Homefree are also worthy of holding a spot under the playlist titled (better than the original?)

I've always loved the late Percy Sledge's original (not so much MIchael Bolton's cover). The writer of the song had just been through a bad break-up and wrote "I gave you everything I had". Austin's (now) wife was in the studio and he sings "I'll give you everything I've got". A slight but significant change. Back in the day, it was called "blue-eyed soul". Tim is an exceptional example of range. He has a neat trick where he can sing low enough to blow out speakers when they perform live. He can sing up into the Tenor range almost as high as Rob and Austin. He has several songs recorded solo where he sings all of the parts by himself. There are only a few groups like Voiceplay and Pentatonix gifted with true bass singers of that caliber.

I think the way they take classic songs and breathe new life into them is amazing. They are introducing young people to the music of my youth and having fun with it. As far as being better than the originals, I think theres not really any way to make an accurate comparison. Different times/culture, as well as available technology makes it impossible. That being said, these songs are classics for a reason, and Home Free pulls them out, knocks the dust off, sprinkles some of that Home Free magic on it, and gives them new life while still respecting the original.

Austin just makes it look easy. Well they all do really.The talent and skill these guys have is astounding. Hey, if you think its better than the original then to you it is and you're not wrong. If someone thinks it's not better then to them it's not and they are not wrong either. That's the great thing about music it's subjective like that.

The lead singer here is Austin Brown. He is a high tenor with an incredibly strong and agile voice. He has his own YT channel with some amazing performances, but if you want to hear him at his best, listen to Bring Him Home and Unchained Melody.

I respect Percy Sledge's version as the original; nice presentation but lacks warmth (imho). Michael Bolton's is the version I've had on my playlist for decades. But--Home Free's version? Austin's high notes are every bit as amazing as the others. And ALL completely acapella?!? With their harmonies and Adam's vocal percussion too?!? No solo act is ever going to best their version as far as I'm concerned. Theirs is now what plays on my regular playlist. In my opinion, Home Free OWNS this song for me now❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ Home Free has been such a great gift to all of us--especially their extra efforts in providing us with excellent music/videos throughout quarantine and the difficult days of isolation we all dealt with during the pandemic. Their creativity in producing the "quarantine" videos--and their commitment to continuing to provide new entertainment throughout (even though they weren't even in the same state!)--has brought along many HF converts. Got to ❤️❤️❤️ Home Free!!
