I don't know theres plenty of 435hp c4 vetts on the streets now days, just a LT4 hot cam and exhaust will put a LT1 car at that power level and most of them run 12.8's, sure this has a 383 so its got crazy torque down low but its times are fairly impressive for its power.

I think the problem is that the front is very 350i-ish and the rest of the car is mostly standard C4, so it kind of feels like an odd hybrid between some atrociously modded Corvette and a TVR [and the disparity between the curves and sharp-edges reminds me of the early-90s Aston Martin Virage, which fell into a similar trap of visual discontinuity.] Styling purely as a result of aerodynamic necessity does not always look good or sell well. They'd probably have been better off with the standard (and record-breaking!) Aerobody seen on the Sledgehammer to great effect. Also, who the hell designs Callaway's interiors? They appear to have the mental age of SIX and a fascination with day-glow. Literally the only thing I like about this car is the corker of an engine, with power and sound regular 'Vettes have only recently attained.

Quite right, both of you. Admittedly rather more reliable than a Marcos, but by no means prettier. At least they were actually designed to BE strange and oddly-upsetting, rather than just LOOKING it.

Algernon Ilfracombe Marcos cars have been rather weird looking, to be honest! The front end of the Mantula, the whole shape of the Mini Marcos etc! But Marcos actually made a rather good looking sports car about 10 years ago, the TSO GT2, powered by the LS2 Small Block!!

Limited production with $120k+ pricetag 20+ years ago - good luck ! If you have money cars like this show up at Barrett-Jackson auctions...

Actual racecars still use them, just look at basically any car in the GT3 class, but most modern supercars that would actually need that kind of downforce use lots of active aero like flaps in various positions around the car that divert airflow depending on what the car is doing, and some still do have actual wings, they just don't pop up until the car is going a certain speed. Active aerosystems add weight though, so actual racecars still primarily go old school and run giant ironing boards on the back of their cars.

Viper of this time dominated most every race in Europe, Corvette was good but 1st-gen Vipers have always been above their competition in the FIA GT2 Class. Quite often Team Oreca Viper GTS-R posted times almost as fast as GT1 Racecars.
