Same here, it's the only retro console I frequently boot up. And I think it has to do with the wonderful library of pickup 'n play games... I still fantasize about picking up dreamcast development, but being a single developer I realize it would be really hard to write something truly impressive for it.

My love for Sega has increased.

It's one of the reasons why I support the Xbox platform. Backwards compatibility matters to me, and I'll be behind the company doing it right.

@@SegaLordX You should look into the Nintendo Switch. the same Sega Genesis Classics plus you can get original Phantasy Star with some remastered tidbits. bonus is you can be just as mobile as the NOMAD!!

I think it would be a massive seller if Sega made a Panzer HD reissue package. It'd need some TLC to be complete, but I know many, many people who'd buy it day 1.

To my knowledge the source code on Saga might be an issue, but we’ll see!

One big reason I still even mess with my Xbox One is because of its BC support. It's made such a difference for me since it was added.

Same here!The pretty damn LARGE amount of SATURN & DREAMCAST games(I’ve clocked & bought around 40 games that I had previously owned on my SATURN & DREAMCAST)from XBLA makes the 360 one of my favourite consoles ever,along with both SEGA consoles mentioned,plus the huge amount of games(over 40)on SEGA Megadrive’s Ultimate Collection for the 360 turns it into the greatest SEGA console that SEGA never manufactured

@@AmbientMess Oh, yes. I know of this mod to the game. There also is a rebalancing mod to this game. Now if we only replace the sound and music of the Legends port with that of the DC sounds and music. Not possible with how the GC calls up sounds and music in this port.

Backwards compatibility is something that absolutely must happen going forward with every platform. With software tools where they are and X86 being the core of console tech nowadays, it's highway robbery if it isn't a feature from here on out.

I definitely wanna do a OG Xbox episode. Sega led into that full on like it was the next Sega system, and many of its games can't be played on modern systems. I'll get to it.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone mention Gun Valkyrie in a KZfaq video, its not perfect, and was originally designed for the Dreamcast and meant to be played with a pad in the left hand (using it kind of like a Wii nunchuck) and the Dreamcast light gun in the right, using the d-pad on top of the light gun to control the movement like an FPS game or Gears of War with two sticks, and the aiming being like a light gun game to shoot. That is why it had such weird out of place controls on the X-Box (no light gun for it at the time.) Sadly, that is one of the two original XBox Sega games that isn't compatible with 360. Plus while it wasn't as big of a thing for us in Europe, I'm sure you as an American know that XBox was the first translated version of Shenmue II the US ever saw. To us it was just an inferior version because of the cheesy voice acting (gotta love it being in Japanese and Cantonese with subtitles on PAL Dreamcast) and Dreamcast letting us use our old save game, even though you loose all your money at the beginning of part II (you do get your move scrolls and capsule toys when you get your rucksack back though.)

I think that's the bit I got stuck on as well, wouldn't know if it deffo was the last one cos I could never kill it :-) Might have been easier if the controls were good and you were aiming with a light gun more like Sin & Punishment 2 on Wii instead of having to click sticks in all the time.

I believe Otogi and the sequel are still locked. I agree with what you said about these games being a great reason to get a 360, but there are so many more. Many folks give the PS3 credit for the most RPG exclusives, but the 360 has great arcade games and many action game exclusives. Senko no Ronde, Virtual On 4, GG Overture, Chrome Hounds, Operation Darkness, the Qubed collection and tons of shmups meant that I started with 360 last gen for sure.

Yeah I didn't count those as Sega only distributed them, they were actually made by From Software of Dark Souls fame, the same way Sega distributed that shit Aliens marines thing made by Gearbox, but you're right, they weren't backwards compatible and they are both amazing games to go through, and like Panzer Dragoon Orta, look better than a lot of 360/PS3 games if you have HD cables for your X-Box instead of composite/scart. The actual fighting mechanics are a bit janky at times, it's definitely a game that is a fun experience more than a fun game if you know what I mean, but I'm glad i own them both, and knew what the first one was like before I bought the second one and I still did.

Rez HD from the 360 sadly isn't backwards compatible on Xbox One.

Same thing happened to me with Sega Rally Online Arcade. I'll get it when it goes on sale. Then it was gone.

I never new out run was remastered on the 360 and ps3 By the time I realised it the game was delisted as well Luckily for me I was able to get it on my ps3 using magic tools ;) but as for after burner I got that day one. Still play it once in a while

3:30 For this one,personnaly prefer on saturn because the resolution is highest enough to have good picture,and feeling is better with irreplaceable saturn pad 3 buttons nearest disposed in one line. But I think they were lucky with sega once(when i see Daytona,Panzer Dragoon,Night,Golden Axe and others on ps2...), to have had such good and faithful portages of their games.

Many of Sega's latest arcade games do not run so well on MAME. I really wish they did.

If I remember, it was enhanced from the arcade version. You can still get it on the Japanese PSN store if you have a PS3, you only need to set up a Japanese account on your PS3, download it, and then switch back to your actual account to start playing it and still get the trophies. Don't know if you can get it on Japanese XBLA, as you need a Japanese 360 to even check let alone buy and play it.

Either one is solid, but I'd recommend whichever is cheapest. The 360 release has some great arcade unlockables that the new game doesn't too.

That 360 port of RS was paid for by Microsoft so it's unlikely. Though if there was just an exclusivity period of time then maybe at some point.

Those Jasper boards really did seem to fix the RRoD problems. Mine still going strong, never had an issue.

Saga does need a HD reissue, and not some half ass emulated attempt that looks bad.

Sega apparently lost the code for it, they WERE looking for it to do an XBLA version like they did with Guardian Heroes, but that is when they realised they didn't have it any more, so it would have to start again from scratch to make a remake (they don't even have the FMV sequences, so would have to redo those or record the compressed Saturn versions to use them again.) A sequel, or a 4K (preferably VR) remake of the three shooters would be awesome.

@@SegaLordX I would buy it in a heartbeat just like Shenmue. I never completed Saga but I did get to the final battle.

If a developer can remake Under Defeat for the Switch, surely SOMEONE can recode Saga the same way.

The developer never lost the source code for Under Defeat on Dreamcast, and the Switch is a power PC based architecture and used mostly the same code as the 360/PS3/Steam version its a conversion of, that they also still have the original source code for. They basically took the game still on the dev kit, and changed a few flags as to what bits of the CPU, GPU and memory they turn on and off, so it would work on Switch. The concept of taking the raw source code of a small shoot-em-up (take the CD Quality sountrack off, the entire game is like 20mb of data, that they still have the source code for), and taking a four disc RPG containing nearly two gigabytes of code, that you don't have, that someone has to sit there playing the released Sega Saturn version of and making a whole new game from scratch to copy it completely, having to redraw every single graphic individually, having to re-record the soundtrack playing it by ear, having to re-render all the CGI cut scenes, having to re-record all the dialogue, everything completely from scratch, is so much more work. It's the difference between burning a copy of the Avengers DVD to a blu-ray (having the source code), and one person watching the avengers while shouting to a full movie set of actors, cameramen, lighting guys, musicians, special effects guys, make up, catering, everyone "Iron man is in a forest and flying now, and his suit is orange and red, and there's a blue glowing thing in the middle of it, and then he says to Captain America 'bad idea he really likes that hammer' and then Thor jumps at captain America with the hammer" and have them completely remake the entire film from scratch, rebuilding, re-shooting and re-recording everything, making new costumes, building new sets (including you humming the theme tune in front of an orchestra and getting the to re-record it from only your hums), JUST from listening to what you shout at them while you watch the original film on Blu-Ray, which is what remaking it without the source code would be like. Except you would be trying to remake the entire Marvel Cinematic universe in one go, including all the netfilx shows and 5 seasons of Agents Of Shield, like that, in this comparison, instead of just one film, because there is just THAT much more content to Panzer Dragoon Azel than there is to Under Defeat. So yeah, it is possible to do that, but under defeat probably cost less than $20,000 in wages for the handful of coders that changed the flags in the code, and a few weeks of Q&A. Panzer Dragoon being remade totally from Scratch would cost about the same as Final Fantasy XV, take multiple years to do, and need to sell about 10 million copies to break even. It would only sell like a million, maybe 2 tops, or if it sold 1 million it would cost like $600 a copy just so Sega don't go bankrupt for making it. If they had the source code, it would be an awesome thing, and only cost them a couple of mill (like $2-3 max) to upscale all the textures and lock the framerate at 1080p 60, like they did with Nights on 360, and I wish so bad they could do that. But it is an impossible dream, if they tried to kickstart it they would need like $60,000,000 to get it done from scratch in this day and age, that's if they cut corners, and it'll be like five or six years till it comes out.

You get that from time to time with compilations. I think more care was taken in the Sega Vintage Collections. The online multiplayer is better there as well.

Indeed, but the arcade version of Daytona was a more difficult game IMO, so it really only adds to the already high challenge.

I have to admit, the 360 version of Daytona disappointed me when compared to the Dreamcast version. That had mirror mode, reverse mode, reverse mirror mode, different seasons or times of day for some of those options, and extra tracks and cars. a HD version of that with the proper controls would have been awesome, or even making the extra courses a DLC for the version we got, would have been amazing too. But game companies don't really do common sense, otherwise we would have had the Satern exclusive areas of Symphony of the Night as DLC for that re-release.

I didn't like the Dreamcast version of Daytona (I still played it to death and online too...) but you really had to use the little thumb analog thing like a little steering wheel or you'd go all over the place.

Yeah, it was ported by Genki instead of Sega themselves, and the control was off. It wasn't just 'not like Daytona' it was an outright awful to play game with the pad. It was a hell of a lot better with a steering wheel, it turned what is otherwise an awful game into a really good game, that looks like but still doesn't actually control anything like Daytona should. Apart from the 360/PS3 version which is spot on, the next best controlling one compared to the original is still the first 15fps letterbox version on the Saturn.
