Garrett Reed’s 1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS is a beautiful build, with a supercharged LS swap that Holley has helped support, a host of Detroit Speed suspension components, and more recently a set of Holley RetroBright headlights.

Thank you. My best pals dad had his dads 68 442 convertible with 570-whatever stroker, and a 4spd, and then some big red doodoo ricer racing seats. I hate even riding in it because of those.

Holley really makes the best stuff, but personally I can't afford to buy much of it new. I've always had Holley carburetor's, never bought a new one and they always worked great. I have a 69 Nova with a BBC that I finished about four years ago. Gas mileage was horrible even though I installed a 5 speed Trimek and 3.08 rear gears. I decided to try to get better gas mileage and played with a computer controlled carburetor set up off a wrecking yard 84 Camaro including the ECM, wiring, O2 sensor and even the Catalytic converter. I used new wires and all new GM connectors. It turned out okay and looking factory but had some reliability issues if I didn't start it and drive it on a regular basis. Then I purchased the new Holley Terminator X, EFI when it first came out. Everything about it was made with quality and engineered as if they had five or more different mechanic's doing separate installations and the engineers watching those guys and correcting anything in the kit that can make an installation go sour. Directions were simple and clear. The installation turned out super clean and it started up the first time as if all the bugs were worked out and I even drove it around with no hood less then 30 minutes after startup. Everything about the system was quality and in the end made the car super reliable to be able to go out any time, start it up and drive. That 427 gets 16 miles to the gallon on the highway @70mph and 15.3 @80 mph and I know it could get even better mileage if I leaned it out as much as the Camaro ECM. I drove it from the Northern California Bay Area to Las Vegas (540 miles) to our new home. Went over highway 152 at 97° and across Highway 15 at 112° outside with the A/C on going over Mountain Pass @4,700 feet at 215° engine temp. The Holley EFI system also controls the electric cooling fans as well and works amazingly accurate. It ran at about 1700 RPM at 70 mph and it never stumbles, never stack fires, starts up every time as if I just turned it off and of course if you stand on it puts you in the seat and sounds just like a carb at wide open throttle. Holley allows you to save different tunes in the programmer and you can let it learn on it's own as you drive or you can play until your hearts content. It's just like a new car that you don't have to do anything to and it's a 1970 Chevy Nova. I'm not a rich man and the price hurt me badly and has kept me away from any other purchases for almost four years now. I've been just washing, waxing and of course driving it once in a while. I'm about to start on my 69 C/10 that was my everyday driver since 1989 and it's stock with a three on the tree and some rust. I am registered with "Brothers" (now a Holley brand as well) with a ton of stuff in my Wish list and some in the Cart. I'll have to save as many of the parts as I can and try to restore all the trim even though Brothers has everything for the truck available to do it right. I think I'm going to attempt to remove the roof panels to replace the rust damaged rain gutter areas and buy the Holley panels through Brothers Trucks. Holley's stuff is the best but I do wish it were a little bit more affordable. One thing for sure, never turn down second hand Holley stuff. It's affordable to some of us and that allows the guys with money to upgrade and give Holley the money they need for future products.
