Naoki's character development improved so much till the end of the series he literally went from being emotionless to knowing feelings like love, jealousy, and regret that he could have been a better husband, it was not possible without Kotoko maybe other girls like Matsumoto and Chris are a smart and ideal match for Naoki but I don't think Naoki would have been changed like he is now.... from ignoring her letters and rude, cold behavior to adoring her every time he gazed at her and admiring her whenever there was a chance, and also waiting for hours on her birthday knowing this day is very special for her and she would be upset if he would have left..... he really Improved a lot.....he rarely appreciates her but whenever he talks about her to other people he never blames Kotoko and complains about her he always speaks nicely about Kotoko....!!!! when I rewatched this series for like 3rd time I felt like he was a red flag and Kotoko deserved better, even started to ship her with kaeta and Kinoske because, although he was shown emotionless but still when he used to be with Matsumoto and Chris he was different he was not annoyed and talk with them nicely and on another hand whenever he used to be with Kotoko it seemed he is not happy to be with her but now after rewatching it, again and again, I realized that he always searched for chance to be with her not directly but it seems with some of his actions their are many things which naoki did silently and which gone unnoticed by everyone but yeah he really loves her more than kotoko loved him he is just less expressive than other poeple and its okay cause me myself is an introvert and can't express myself vocally thats why I write my feelings, so I can understand naoki very well, Naoki wasn't a red flag he is just filled with flaws and without Kotoko he would have never noticed that and tried to change cause, you can never find your flaws by staying with people who are same like you, even Kotoko is filled with flaws and even if it seems that Irie Naoki is intelligent and good looking on other hands he was cold and was emotionless and same with Kotoko she is bit dumb and daydreams a lot but on another hand, she is way more expressive about her feelings which makes them perfect...!!! Kotoko thinks she is lucky to have Naoki she is wrong cause he is the one who is lucky to have her because of the way he used to treat her before, but she never lost hope and tried her best to impress him. If there would have been any other girl instead of Kotoko Naoki would never have changed this much cause unknowingly he had already fallen for her when they had their first kiss when she told him I'm going to move on...he was just not sure about his feelings and didn't know how to express his emotions that time...even Naoki knew Kotoko can't do 90% of what he can do but Kotoko can do 10% of what Naoki can't do...they both complete each other..!!

Imagine being this stressed out about being late for a date not because you think your husband will be worried about you but because you think he's left for home. Moreover, imagine having to fight so hard for a date with your HUSBAND in the first place. Defend this man all you want, but I don't wish this on anyone. The person carrying this relationship is Kotoko, but the person keeping it together is the mother in law.

I think this relationship wouldn't be possible without Irie's mom. If it any other Asian mom, especially with a son like Irie who's a genius and a doctor, I don't think they would like Kotoko as a daughter-in-law who's kinda dumb and clumsy, no matter how kind she is 🤷

Whatever you say about irie his the example of "she fell in love first but he fell harder" you guys should watch the taiwanese version starring ariel and Joey. You can definitely see how he loves xiangqin. I'll fight everyone who said that it's bad

I know that majority of the people here hate Irie but I can't bring myself to hate him because his actions are completely understandable. Genius people tend to lack emotions, yes they're relationship may be toxic at first but I just want to praise our Irie for changing himself. Just like from this scene, he really waited for Kotoko. And then again, i respect all their opinions whether you hate or love Irie.

I still don't get why the paramedics wanted her to go with them. She already gave them more than enough information she fortunately obtained asap before they arrived.

Naoki/Irie is actually emotionless he is troubled by any kind of feelings of love sadness etc.. he’s not meant to be tsundere instead is irritated by emotions since he’s not used to them and Kotoko taught him the true meaning of them and added colour to his life, he was never a bad person just lost

Even though it's somehow a toxic relationship, but I praise Kotoko perseverance (is it the word? Sry english not my native language). In real life though, I wouldn't supportive enough waiting till the toxic partner to change.
