Love that Chevette! My Dad worked at Vauxhall and used to Clerk of the Course for the staff race club meetings. Vauxhall used to give him a car for the race weekends, usually a Royale or Senator. I’ll never forget his face when he arrived to collect his car one weekend and they’d given him Penti Arikkala’s works DTV HSR Chevette. What a car that was!

If I surprisingly inherit a fortune one day, I will let you guys work your magic on my Fulvia Coupe. :D PS: I wonder why you didn't put the boot latches of the Minor in the back, on this car a rearward opening bootlid would probably be more practical to reach into the boot, wouldn't it?

The Moggy is coming along nicely.. May i humbly suggest that the front edge of the wing echoes the contour of the bonnet, and that the headlight 'tunnel' follows the horizontal plane of the bonnet? It appears to raise upwards to the headlight..this could be how it was originally but also the angle of the camera, or distortion caused by the lens. The cylindrical headlight section is quite problematic because it needs to be sympathetic to the front and side profile of the car without spoiling the harmony of the worl already carried out. The way the BMW Mini Cooper R53 blended s similar shape into the wing/bonnet area is aesthetically very pleasing, but the Moggy presents even more challenges.

Fantastic video as usual. Seems to have been a week with some head scratching and deep thinking! Do you find that with your experience you can run through options for things like the hinges and usually tend to land on an obviously favourable solution quite quickly? Is it sometimes hard to pick between different options when they're all a bit sub-optimal? Do you ever worry about spending lots of time thinking and not actually finding a solution? I can imagine that thinking time can seem like a bit of a distraction with so much physical work going on around you.

Door fit and flexibility in door hinge panel, nothing like stiff enough and poor door handle and door catches were always a weak point on all Morris Minor 1000 cars. Doors dropped very quickly. Austin Maxi/1800/Marina door handles both interior and exterior were a vast improvement at the launch they were called zero torque door latches bit of exaggeration perhaps but a vast improvement and appeared on Lotus Esprit amongst many other cars

Hello Wondering about the Raptor system, is it used on the underside of Chevette ? I was looking into using it on my 110 Land Rover Defender and heard that it was not as tough as what people think, when it is damaged the water gets underneath then the raptor starts to peal off. scratched Is that something you have found happening ? Great program, only just found you and I am looking forward to watching the moggy progress. Thanks.

Is Stu' a retired kamikaze pilot when it comes to PPE? (welding at 14.30) ! I thought the Merc' would be mechanically tough as old boots . So why the Jaguar rolling gear and the LS? engine. Regarding the Vauxhall, How you get that much power out of a normally aspirated engine is amazing . It appears to be dry stumped? And the Morris MX5 is coming on well. All very clever stuff and you've definitely captured a niche market. Enjoyable as always. Thanks .
@retropowercars
@retropowercars 3 жыл бұрын
The Merc stuff is essentially a 50s design and not great. Weak diffs. Horrible camber change at the rear due to the weird central pivoting axle, kingpin/trunnion front end. Basically we decided that for a 430bhp car with adjustable ride height that needs to be reliable and handle well it's wholly unsuitable
