Anybody who wasn't alive in the 80's and is just watching this now for the first time doesn't realize just how hot Bruce Willis was after 'Moonlighting' hit the air. Everybody wanted a piece of him. Seagram's paid him around $5 million to pitch their wine coolers on TV, film offers were pouring in, he married Demi Moore - and then Die Hard opened in theaters. So it's not surprising that he tried to make a record too. Marginal singer - yes. Which is why there is only about 20 minutes of music in this and they put together a first-class band to back him up. Take it for what it's worth. Saw parts of this when it aired, thanks for posting.

I bought the only copy of this CD in the whole town I was living in in France in 1988. And I never knew this mockumentary ever existed !!! It's so nice to see Bruce having so much fun on screen... and a little sad to see what he is doing nowadays. I've re-watched some Moonlighting episodes, which are poor stories whith fantastic chemistry between the 2 stars of the show.

A GEM that few people can appreciate. Great memories of watching this over and over when HBO had their old-school rotation. This ranks up there with Joe Piscapo's drum solo during his show....yeah I said it! ;p

This is without a doubt the greatest thing I have ever seen in my life. Like a fever dream I don’t want to ever end. Clearly, we now know where Bruce’s $6m salary from DIE HARD went: to making the greatest rockumentary ever made in this universe. LONG LIVE BRUNO!!!

"Only" they paid him 5M $, but not to produce the documentary, unless they advanced his salary. The documentary aired on Feb 07, 1987 and Die Hard was shot between Nov 02, 1987 and March 1988.

Wow! Some people hate EVERYTHING! Absolutely no sense of humour at all. What miserable lives they must live. This is really funny. Love it. The actual OST is pretty damn good. It features some great "blues standards'. Well worth the search and a listen. He was pretty good. If you don't like the Blues and Rock n' Roll, then you just won't get it, and this just isn't for you, but don't put sh*t on something just because YOU don't understand it. My only criticism is that he didn't keep up his music career as well. In the words of Bill & Ted, "...be excellent to each other."

I vividly remember the reaction to this from the British press. Those that reviewed it as real were simply 'in' on the joke. The rest, like most people, were just baffled as to how such a terrible vanity project, for a star who could barely hold a note, ever got off the ground. Spinal Tap it ain't. But it does prove what a huge, huge star Willus was at the time.
@Astonishist
@Astonishist 4 жыл бұрын
He wasn't even a big star when this came out. All he'd really done at the time was Moonlighting. This was before Die Hard which is what really made him a big film star. That just makes it even more baffling.
@MarcelLWalker
@MarcelLWalker 4 жыл бұрын
@@Astonishist MOONLIGHTING was a BIG DEAL back then, and incredibly successful. In terms of popularity, it was neck-in-neck with MIAMI VICE and rose rapidly through the ratings. There was also far less television competing for viewers' attentions in the early-mid '80s, so people were well aware of who Willis was before his movie career hit its stride. In the space of four years, he went from MOONLIGHTING to DIE HARD and beyond, an incredible ascent. This and the accompanying album were just part of his climb.
@bowiestones1
@bowiestones1 3 жыл бұрын
@@MarcelLWalker Very true, being 14 and a bit when Moonlighting started in 85, by this time he was a huge TV star with obvious Cinematic appeal, and he was RED HOT, this was such fun when it appeared, it was a Late-Nite Special in mid 1987 when this appeared, and it was all we were talking about at school for a few days, but by then "Bad News Tour' and "Spinal Tap' had already grabbed us, this however added to the melange of flavors that made us produce a brilliantly stupid skit for a school talent show as a "Fake Rock Band", long time ago in a galaxy far far away

The version released on VHS that I had here in New Zealand actually had the full audio of Under The Boardwalk. It does surprise me that obtaining music rights to songs on home video releases is so difficult for USA consumers. Tv shows seem to have different music for their home video release tan when originally broadcast. Here in NZ we get all the original music on tv shows on home release.

Seems somewhat Comical protray of a singer and the movie itself..Dick Clark in the movie, Elton John, Ringo Starr,Wolf Man Jack,Clive Davis, etc. It is ashame Bruce Willis stepping away from acting because of Aphasia, he may not be able to communicate again by voice. I do like a lot of this movie. I think the reason it isnt connecting for some people is that it is a mocumentary but the songs aren't overtly satirical or funny really. It's like Willis wanted to make a fun mocumentary but secretly wanted to show people he can sing, hoping it would propel that part of his career perhaps? So half of it kinda falls flat. This probably would have been funnier with an experienced and well known improv actor and at least a few satirical songs.
