Biologists released a handful of weasel-like animals called fishers into the Washington Cascades in 2015. Two years later, they returned to see if they were surviving and reproducing.

I only found out about this Animal today. Standing in Smokey Point Wa in the city I had one walk less than a foot in front of me while being chased by 6 very pissed off birds who cornered it under a deck for at least a hour. Upon first glance I thought it was a Badger or Wolverine I was pretty much in shock the whole encounter lasted about 10 secs. The dead give away when trying to find out what I seen because it wasn't a badger or wolverine, was the tail this Pacific fisher had at least a 3 foot tail and this animal had to be close to 20 pounds. Very pretty fur that was all black.

@@aarondavid9471Those Ravens/Crows know what a threat Fishers are to them & their eggs. Fishers are seriously adept in trees. Ravens/Crows also mob raptors. Even eagles.

I think it's great what you guys are doing in America and I know that there are some issues regarding other animals and a lot of people will be unhappy about their reintroduction but they belong there Here in the UK conservationists have reintroduced the pine martens to Wales and England from Scotland but they were extinct almost here and now they are back but they are helping with the decline of the grey squirrel which has killed a lot of our red squirrel due to the disease they carry and lots of people here have been going crazy about their return to England and Wales but they belong here and who are we to say that they don't because we don't want them to..

They need to bring in Fishers from Maine. They have learned to love being around people and like feral cats too.

I doubt a Fisher could kill an adult lynx or Bobcat, it would have to be young one. And visa versa a lynx or Bobcat would kill a young Fisher. So no exaggerations please.

I'm not sure you've ever had one in front of you. I can guarantee I had no clue what this animal was until today. What I can tell you is this Pacific Fisher I saw was at least 20 pounds with at least a 3 foot tail on in. Standing in my Driveway in Smokey Point WA. That animal if it wanted could easily kill a bobcat or lynx both animals I have also seen a bunch of I've lived in WA all my life never in my life did I imagine that was something I could encounter in the wild let alone in my front yard in the city. It had zero fear of me and was being hounded by at least 6 crows. It made for a loud afternoon.

@@aarondavid9471 3-foot tail? I'm not sure a wolverine has a 3-foot tail! But I couldn't tell you which would come out on top. Weasel family have deceptively small jaws with off-the-chart bite force, and they're so quick and supple... I THINK a big lynx would be more than a fisher would want to mess with, but the mustelids punch way above their weight class. And they crush bone with their bites. Pine Marten will kill a roe deer with a bite to the neck, severing the spinal cord. I've been up close with ferrets, and judging by THEIR bite, I would not want to be on the wrong side of any member of the weasel family.

Look up the study they did in Maine about Fishers killing (with ease too) & dismembering Lynx. The wildlife service did this study over a 14 year period. I've been researching Fishers here lately & they are ruthless & very formidable predators.

I had a Wolf Sanctuary and I had fifty of them. For 25 years. They don't bother people!!! In fact I had people coming across my fence at night stealing gas out of my vehicles at night, because they locals knew they didn't bite people. I had to get a Chow dog and a wolf dog that a drug dealer trained to bite people to stop night thieves. Ha Ha, that didn't work because they tried to bite me first day. So put the chow chow dog in a electric fence pen. Thee Wolf dog took me down on the ground as the previous owner was driving away. Had my 45, but didn't want to shoot my new guard dog. My Wolves came and put him in a five way stretch (off the ground) and I had to save him. Next day thinking he was OK, I was petting him, and again he attacked me rolling me on my back. Again my Wolves came and got him In the five way stretch (off the ground) again!!! This time I let my Wolves chew on him a few moments longer and then saved him again. After that, he decided I was his best friend and also all people were good!! Making him worthless as a guard dog. Same thing with the Chow Chow dog, after several times of me saving him he decided I was his best friend and all people were good!! Ha Ha Found a baby deer on the top of my property and after two days the mother still hadn't came back to take care of her, I brought her down and put her in with all my 50 Wolves fed her powdered goats milk, and got her hunger cured. My Wolves seeing how I was treating her like part of the family were curious, but didn't bother her. The "Alfa Male" adopted her and wouldn't let any of the other wolves to get close to her. The Alfa Male and the fawn (Esmeralda) woul play tag every day chasing each other at high speed all around the enclosure. She could out run him most of the time and then she would chase him all around. After they got tired they would take a nap together with her curling up between his legs. People passing by seeing this couldn't believe their eyes!! Once almost causing a wreck because the car in front slammed on the break's to see a baby deer chasing a wolf!! Reason for my comments leading me to tell of a Cattle Rancher was buying puppies from me told me he successfully uses his little wolf pack to guard his cattle from predators (coyotes, mountain lion's mostly) with them patrolling the entire property 24/7 and getting fed at the barn every evening. He said he has never lost a cow or calf to predators since they started patrolling (3 years at that time) all his wolves were young puppies that he started with. Also, they are Wolf dogs, not pure Wolves. ( 60 % to 75%)
