🔥Today we take a deeper look at the new Revenant spear. The good, the bad, and the ugly. There is only a few things I would change to make this a great weapon! We got our first taste of the new spear weapons for every class during this beta event. They will be fully released with the Guild Wars 2: Janthir Wilds expansion coming August 2024!

yee haw, brutha I'm a compulsory sign reader, as soon as i see text somewhere, i gotta read it. ^^" As for the spear, i'm pretty much on board with you here. It gets a lot of hate but i think apart from its obvious flaws it is really fun to play with. I hope they don't gut the mechanic and feel too much and make it boring (like they did with some of the EoD specs). Overall i feel like they held back a lot with the new weapons, trying to make them more "balanced" and making some of the skills more conditional. Most of the spears don't hold a candle to the other ridiculously powercrept nonsense the classes got access to. It is a good direction if they keep going that way but then the existing weapons absolutely need to be redefined and reigned in as well! Like this most spears just feel like they need more work to be worse.

Yeah I was hoping for a 1200 range open world tagging weapon too.

the hammer just ain't it hey. the only 1200 weapon we got and it kinda stinks in pve.

my impression with the spear is that they are trying to fill the ranged cleave role. Problems apart, specially the range, this seems like a weapon that you would like use to deal with AOE at medium range

mm true, you do gain the abyssal raze stacks faster when cleaving multiple enemys, so the damage ramp up is faster vs single target.

you didnt mention anything about weapon swapping to get the bonus damage from stacking the spear 5 buff. The damage rotation is designed around weapon swapping basically off cooldown, this means that the energy economy isnt as bad as you might think, since you're refilling by constantly swapping. I did feel like the range and damage numbers could afford to be higher but everything else felt fine to me.

ah yes I did forget about that mechanic. although to me, getting that bonus when swapping weapons at maximum stacks actually feels like its pushing against mindlessly weapon swapping off cooldown and instead rewards you for only swapping when at max stacks which is a kind of unique mechanic i guess, but I dont know that id want to have to constantly be keeping an eye on my messy buff bar for the number of stacks there before i swap weapons every time. so I kinda just ignored that mechanic when testing the weapon. Also swapping weapons doesnt reset your energy like swapping legends so I dont think it would have helped my energy management at all if I did.

I like fast animation speed but I gotta say the auto attack speed doesnt really bother me since you're constantly spamming your 2 - 5 skills and barely auto attack anyways. The range I actually really like. But I also haven't had expectations for a long range. The energy cost problem I completely agree with.

Tbh I wanted it to be a power weapon (mainly cause I don't like playing condi as I dislike the ramp-up playstyle), but also it would be Peak Dragoon Fantasy having it be a power based weapon

yea I was hoping for power too tbh. it does actually have some strike damage on it, I wonder how possible it be to use it with a power build

If you're moving forward while skill 3 is pressed you gain 4-5 depending if you have swiftness or not.

doesnt seem to work like this in my experience, I get between 2-4 mines when using it without swiftness and even with swiftness sometimes ill get only 3 instead of 4. ive never seen 5 mines even with super speed

@@ieatyoulol You have to stay moving forward while using it, then you always have 4, I did it many times and got that 🫤

Why not put the spammed skill on 2 ? It feel weird to spam the furthest skill

my guess is to give it some identity, like necro spear already has its main damage ability on skill 2. I use an MMO mouse so all weapon abilities are basically equally easy to press

Reve spier is the one I expected to be the best, turns out it's the worst. I liked all other, more or less, I don't see any play with it as the way it is, it's neither condi nor power, it haves no cc, provides no boons and it's animations mostly use 1 hand but weapon is 2 handed. Others seem fine rime
