I've noticed sparks job postings for a full time perm salaries are getting lower. You'd expect to be offered around £35k before this financial crisis but firms are dropping their offers to new recruits more in the region of £32-33k

Trouble is at least in my area ,when these smart meters become dumb. The supplier doesn’t want to . know. I have a friend who’s been waiting over a year and a customer 18 months to have their dumb meters replaced. After dozens of calls to SSE they have given up.

I've had to stay in 3 times for a smart meter to be fitted ,each time failed to communicate with gas meter ,fourth time, I phoned them and said they don't work ,this has been noted and I have to read the meter every month !

Symple charging £125 for an EICR is a bit cheap. What would the electrician get? You certainly won't get a thorough report from anyone they hire at those prices.

So cheap! That ain’t a proper EICR at all!!! Maybe for a one bed studio. The cert on a decent house is a couple hours at least and the inspection and test should be about 6-8 hours.

I used to earn about £900-1000 a week doing price work. company van, fuel card, large tools and tester supplied. uniform. And that was back before 2008 financial crash. worked my arse off though!

What about staff electricians???? Never see it covered 😡 average wage in some areas of £14-17 /her with no sick pay and minimal pension and holiday!!

If your employed - sick pay, holidays and pension are part of a contract of employment by law.

@@efixx apologies, I should have been clearer, you get statutory sick pay which is basically nothing as supposed to actually nothing like I suggested. Same goes for a pension that only goes to 1-3% and 20+8 holidays.

Yes and the wage offers are getting lower recently. Bare minimum hols, mandatory call out, take the van burden home with you. Those FT contracts are for mugs

Mate there is an insane amount of work in London at the moment, construction is booming. You could literally walk onto a site and get work I’ve done it recently

£52000 unfortunately it isn't uncommon hear in the south east lots of oap fo get the reading arse about face then we have transposed meters ie flat 1 meter is feeding flat 5 so the bills are all wrong and with an block of flats with different suppliers nightmare? Then there is smart well the less seed about them the better it can be difficult when an 93 year old is off supply for hot water & heating when the carer changes tariff from E7 to standard on the Internet?? All in the life of an engineer in the south east.

Cobblers. Sub contracting electricians do not make £1000 a week. Rares are lower than in the 90s. £180 a day is the average daily rate which is £720 a week.

The subbie i have working with me at the minute, north west, is on £24 per hour and paid a 40 hour week so £960 a week. As his supervisor I'm on £16.80 plus all the stress

Average down South and around London is at least £240 per day, domestic too. I won’t work for less. This is just as a subby. If you get your own work you can easily make £300+ per day

@@uplightuk8924 I live and work in London. Getting 240 a day is gonna be for 11hr days. Very few companies paying that for a normal 8hrs.

@@garywilton246 Sounds like the fact that you charge hourly is where you’re going wrong. Put a set day rate for an 8 hour day (mine is £240) then charge an hourly rate for any hours above this. I know people working for way more than me too. I’m also not even based in London most of my work is in Bedfordshire/Bucks
