Жыл бұрынThe next van is finally revealed and in this video we show you the final 3 and why we picked the one we did and what happens from now on.
Hi! We're Rick, Heather & our dog Poppy and we travel in Pearl our Elddis CV20 campervan.
We film the places we visit as our own diary, these videos are meant as a little memento for us but we're happy to share them with you if you want to watch.
We're just an ordinary couple in our 50's filming our adventures with basic equipment so don't expect loads of flash camera action and super editing with great music.
We also film videos of work we have done on our van as well as van reviews for our reference of the next van we might buy. Occasionally there are hints & tips videos too. We do basic site and area reviews including if they’re dog friendly but they’re a guide only based on our opinions which may or may not help you make an informed decision on if you’d like the place.
We do a mix of off grid camping, pub stopovers plus real campsites too, hopefully something for everyone to enjoy!

Great choice of van I am pleased you picked the Apollo you could see your enthusiasm for it and the s&l company and their approach Of them all it was the one I could see from the videos you felt the most comfortable in and It’s lovely how they can bespoke it to your needs and wants! Good choice guys, I bought a new Boxer for work in 2015 and one of the best options I added was electric folding mirrors, it was only £100 back then, probably £1000s now but it saved getting mirrors smashed many times in the narrow lanes where we live. We have an motorhome with an auto box it’s brilliant

Good choice with the Apollo, I recently took delivery of the Oslo S2 and also couldn't justify the auto with 180 bhp cost (would have liked it) I ordered the expedition grey which I called shiny grey primer but Fiat cancelled the colour on the last S8's so I went with the Amazon as you call it (just need some prime stickers now and I can park it anywhere 😁) Look forward to you getting it

Thanks, yeah I think we’re on S9 now I originally liked the darker grey (Lanzarotte) until someone said Amazon van…. We love the Consort but the fridge behind the seat bothers me. We’re in no rush to get the new van but we’re looking forward to it too. The auto option was just a step too far wasn’t it?

Great news for you and sounds like a well considered decision. You've done well with that delivery date as we are still waiting for a Fiat ordered Oct 21 that had been pre ordered May 21. I can't quite work it all out but hope yours comes on time. Good decision holding onto yours as we sold ours in December 21 expecting the new on 3 months after 😞

I’m not sure if the date will happen but the Fiat dealer the base van is coming from says late summer… In honesty we’re happy if it drags on as it will be a 73 registration if it goes to September… but we’re keeping Pearl until it’s nearly ready so we’ll be ok whatever. Research Research Research they say…. Cheers 👍

Love the way you've taken such a methodical approach to this. All makes sense to me. We'll probably be in the same position in about a year but I think I'm going to start putting a few bob aside for the Auto from this month incase we do change. Looking forward to the build updates.

DrumRoll…….Well I got it wrong. S&L does look excellent and I think it’s going to be a great van for you. Sounds like the customisation is fantastic. Agree with you completely ref the Auto gearbox. £6k is a lot of other upgrades. Love the idea of the Diary of the build. That’s a great idea. I think you picked the best colour combo. Love it. Must admit I am getting excited about it. Great choices and great you will keep Pearl while it’s all happening. Great vlog guys. 👏👏👏🙏

Great you got to your decision and did all the due diligence. Exciting times. Who said you can’t have a table in the front of a CV20 though 😀 Thank you as you’ve helped me win a bet, Rachel reckoned you would go with the IH. I stood firm on the one you’ve ordered. We definitely did research and yes you can fit a table but it’s just the angle of the driver seat and the feet dangling that’s an issue. Many people thought IH but in the end everything had to beat the S&L not sure if the dates are a bit pie in the sky but we’re ok with that to be honest 😊 enjoy the free tea!

Congratulations on your choice, Heather and Rick. It is very nice that you can custom build, to a point. I also like that you can pay for the build over installments. I hate option packages; Fiat and other manufacturers do packages. Outrageous that you have to pay £6,000+ just to get an automatic! Cannot wait to see the final product!

Just brilliant Rick and Heather. Can really see why you chose it. Such a great idea to be able to choose your options and watch it develop. Seems a really good company. We're so interested to see the timescales on this as we ordered from an Autosleepers dealer in February, and they are talking September. BUT - Fiat \ Peugeot lead times appear to be seven to eight months so we don't honestly expect ours til the new year. But you're ordering \ sourcing in a completely different way so it will be so interesting to see if Anthony at S&L can supply earlier. Just a great watch as always 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Thanks, I’m not sure if it’s easier to buy single vans or the fiat dealership Anthony is using are able to pull strings or even if the timescale is achievable… but we’re happy to wait, we’ll keep Pearl until it’s nearly finished and if it’s later than September it will be a 73 plate anyway 👍

Great choice of van. You did the right thing and drilled down to detail and as you know, the devil is in the detail. With regards to the tracker alarm system, we found it difficult to insure our van (Smirf) and equipment at £100K without a tracker. The annual premium was stupid and some wouldn’t even quote. We are picky with our insurance purely because we have history of a major claim in a car. The leather steering wheel and gear knob can be retro fitted and other accessories are fun to purchase after delivery. We had extra courtesy lighting and cab blinds fitted. It’s exciting to do the little seasonal add-ons. Looking forward to later in the year when you take delivery 👍🏻😃🚐 Trev n Sue

@@RickandHeather The Ih vans are up there with the others you had on your list. It’s all about personal choice really. For us, sliding doors and diesel heaters are a no no but they are absolute perfection to some Vanlifers. If it hadn’t been for the motorhome door and the VW Crafter, our number 2 was a small A Class but they all had the doors in the wrong side 🤣🤣 There’s no perfect van 🚐 Trev

Congratulations, we recently went through the same process but for our first ever van. A suggestion for a name for yours could be Amelia (Earhart) after the first woman to fly across the Atlantic. Or Amy (Johnson) if it has to be UK 😂

Great choice of van. I reckon Cynthia is a good name. It’s a poetic name meaning moon and the birthplace of Apollo which fits with the van model and expedition grey colour!

Love your choice. We have just put down a deposit on a Wildax Pulsar which is the same colour as your new van. I’ve chosen the name Wanda and will change my KZfaq name to something like Wanda Wildax wonders. What do you think? Only female explorer that is coming to mind is the cartoon character Dora. So glad you'e getting a van that obviously suits you. And that colour and the decals are the dogs ...... On a previous video I commented that the 12v condenser fridge is the only thing I miss from my CV, you replied that you getting a bit sick of changing bottles (my word). I almost said that given the choice I'd probably go gas free - diesel heating+hot water and electric cooking, induction hob and air fryer. Not sure if you're going that far, tbh.

We like the gas oven and that doesn’t use much gas it’s the heating that’s a killer, with diesel and more solar plus our recent power bank purchase we’re hoping to be a bit more self sufficient. Yeah the vans look great we think. Plenty of research was done 👍

I thought you might go with the Apollo. I have an auto car , but auto in the van never bothers me rather spend the money elsewhere. The key thing on security is an immobiliser , a ghost immobiliser is something to look at. Best wishes H and M

Yeah “outsmart the thief” seems to be a popular choice, after our discussion on Tracker with you we aren’t going anywhere with that this time, auto for retirement I think but for now we’ve been ok with manual so far

totally agree that the van name needs to have meaning. Our van is called ViviVan, after my darling little sister Vivianne who loved campervaning but sadly turned up her toes. so she's with us whenever we're away in Viv. Very interesting run down and love the method of choosing. I really do just LOVE a good spreadsheet! 🙂

That sounds great. I’ve just come across a channel and looked at their van review, it’s an East Neuk Campervan which I’d never heard of. Initially like some others I wasn’t sure about the raised floor in the S&L but their van was great and it had a raised floor. At the back they had access to the underfloor for storage and had their hose and EHU and lots of other stuff stored there. Also on hindsight you only really sit or sleep in that area and if you’re shorter you have better access into your lockers. So I think I’m warming to the idea! 🤣🤣 My Peugeot Devon Colorado, named Rocky because of the rockies link with Colorado and obviously it was a boxer, had colour coded bumpers but my new Aztec, Monty or Montezuma named after the Aztec emperor or was it the Tequila? 😂 is expedition grey but has the black bumpers. To be honest, I took the display model and didn’t realise until it had been on the drive a couple of days. I’m now thinking I’d quite like those BF Goodrich trail or all terrain tyres and I think it will look good with the black bumpers and a set of those. I won’t waffle any longer but congratulations on your new van and thanks for sharing your experience. I’m going to think about a name now. I can’t rush that!

@@RickandHeather I thought I would look at names linked to Apollo who is a Greek god and search for explorers. At first I found Hermes, wrong because he’s male and also because you already mentioned you went of Lanzarote Grey due to the Amazon link 🤣. However, I did find Avandra when I Googled and I like what she represents. Perfect name in my opinion so Avandra is my suggestion. I also think she’s in Dungeons and Dragons or maybe some sci-fi stuff but not certain. Just thinking there may be another theme tune in this. Mind CamerVanya may not be happy with a Campavandra 😳. I bet you think I’m crackers 🤣 but see below. Who is the goddess of travel and adventure? Avandra, Goddess of Freedom, Travel, and Adventure, also known as “She Who Makes the Path,” or the "Change Bringer"; Avandra champions freedom, travel, trade, and adventure across the lands. Call her Selene - after Greek goddess of the moon (which is pale grey). She has links to the Greek god Apollo. Selene drives her moon chariot across the heavens. Your van is your chariot. Google her 👍🏻

Fiat is treating the UK market shoddily. They said they could no longer supply the Maxi-Chassis option to my van and now it appears you can no longer have the automatic with the 140HP engine.

Not sure, the S9 Ducato is a 2.2 engine so slightly different than ours but anything around 30 is ok with me
