Billie Holiday turned a lifetime of pain into immortal lyrics, with a voice that still haunts decades after her death. Her life is now the subject of a new film, "The United States vs. Billie Holiday," about the government's persecution of the jazz singer. Correspondent Tracy Smith talks with singer-songwriter Andra Day (who adapted Holiday's nickname "Lady Day" as her own), and with director Lee Daniels, about the emotional roller-coaster of bringing Holiday's tormented life to the screen.

God doesn’t want that for any of His creation so He sent His Son Jesus(God in the flesh) & Jesus lived the perfect life. I worked with her last pianist Mal Waldron ... who dedicated 4 tribute albums to her after her death ... and I helped him with the promotion of his last hommage-album to her 'NO MORE TEARS ( For Lady Day ) ' , that was produced in The Netherlands - Europe . So that movie of 1972 was nothing but lies ! The real Louis McKay - as he is played in that movie - wasn't like that at all ... neither was Billie as played by D. Ross .

Lady Holliday just like Reverand Martin Luther King, Jr. and so many others (as I suspect Haji Malcolm X) were mercilessly victimized and eventually murdered by The FBI and Herbert Hoover's CointelPro's Lynching Program against African Americans and those that 'aligned' themselves with those his FBI considered too powerful. Still to this day there are 2 Amerikkkas. I am so glad the true stories of these amazing men and women are being told and not just the ugly parts. We owe their memories so much more.

One thing is that they did not become illuminati's in Freemasons maybe a few of them I didn't realize that Martin Luther King was a that's why they had to get him out of the way because he was becoming too strong of a figure of black society. The same with others Harriet Truman if I must go on it would be long. And when people played the role of people that have died they play it from their heart soul and mind will an emotion without a doubt I pray that she does get an Oscar even Denzel Washington play so many roles he barely got one. The same with Eartha Kitt and Baker she had to go to Paris because they blackballed her from America even earthquake. 🕊️🕊️👑👑👑🔥🔥🎶🌹🌹🥳🥳💖✨🙏

I've been looking so forward to seeing this movie. Love Billie ❤ and also the movie Lady Day. Unfortunately another letdown hearing it will be on Hulu. They make it so hard for all to see these days since things changed to these formats. I can't afford to keep adding onto with cable, Amazon prime and Netflix as is. What a shame. Movie looks great.

I'm grateful for movies like this that present the truth about the people we still adore. I loved Billie Holiday's music growing up, but every time I would watch documentaries about her, her death was always vague. And I felt lied to about it. Finally the truth is out.

Very much looking forward to seeing this movie and this performance. The story of the composer of "Strange Fruit" is quite interesting as well, and I wish they'd at least have mentioned it. But hopefully it'll get at least a passing line or two in the film.
