The roof is covered now in solar panels but it supplies just enough power to run my cooler and small refrigerator. People over estimate what solar panels are capable of doing.

@@ifly64s I have 350w solar panels on my Jeep and it's more than enough to run my refrigerator. I heard that you can put 1.6kw of solar panels on a Sprinter van. That would be enough to charge the car battery 10% per day if it was an EV.

@@djp1234 The Revel has air conditioning, electric stove, lights, diesel heat with blowers and a refrigerator all in need of power. The AC alone uses our 650 amp hour batteries over one night during summer. Our charging comes mostly from a dedicated second alternator that runs off of the Sprinters diesel engine. And, before you say it, yes I’ve roughed it 28 years in the Army in desert heat and European cold without AC or heat. I’m done with that BS.

@@ifly64s I plan on using AC too. I think there are more efficient appliances available now, like AC units that only use 800w, induction stoves and DC powered fridges. My DC fridge only uses 50w when it’s running. I think all these problems are solvable with modern tech.

@@djp1234 my Revel has induction stove and a DC refrigerator. The AC whether 12 volt or 120 is the largest consumer of power by far. 12 volt units use less power but also cool less. We have improved our insulation, added lithium battery capacity and added a larger dedicated alternator for charging the batteries. Our solar mainly keeps the batteries topped off while the rig is sitting with the cooler and refrigerator running. Solar is very expensive with a relatively small gain in power.
