Revelation 16:17-21
17 Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, “It is done!” 18 And there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth. 19 Now the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And great Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath. 20 Then every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 21 And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent. Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great.
Verses 17-21,
Loud voice shouts out of the Temple, “IT IS DONE.” Revelation 15:7
What does God mean by, “it is done.” Greek word, “ghin-om-ahee” means it is done or finished. This is written in the perfect tense. A perfect tense in the Greek denotes a completed action with the results continuing on until sometime in the future.
So what this is saying, ONCE THE SEVEN VILES OF JUDGEMENT ARE DONE…Their finished. They have all been fulfilled. But the results of the viles being poured out will continue into the future for some time.
How far in the future will that be? How long into the future will the results of these judgments be?
These seven judgements will continue all the was until Christ returns.
Think about this for a moment. All the people who have taken the mark and worshipped the beast will have sores until Jesus returns.
All the oceans will be congealed until Jesus returns
All the fresh water will be like blood until Jesus returns.
The Suns rays will still be so intense causing third degree burns until Jesus returns.
The Beast’s personal kingdom is going to remain in darkness until Jesus returns.
v. 18-20, Earthquake unlike any one have ever seen before.
1. The great city will be split into three parts. Jerusalem.
In Revelation Jerusalem is always referred to as the great city. Revelation 11:8, And their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also [c]our Lord was crucified. (this voice is talking about the two witness that were murdered.) Now we know that Babylon is also mentioned as a great city, but only time that is mentioned Babylon follows. When Revelation says a great or the great city and does not mention a city by name, it is speaking about Jerusalem.
Zechariah 14:4, And in that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives,
Which faces Jerusalem on the east.
And the Mount of Olives shall be split in two,
From east to west,
Making a very large valley;
Half of the mountain shall move toward the north
And half of it toward the south.
I believe that this will happen when Jesus feet touch the Mt. Olives.
According to Ezekiel 47:1-12
Verse 21- Huge Hail stone actually rain down on the earth. These hail stones according to scholars will be around 100 lbs and be 17 inches in diameter. Like a medicine ball.
Largest hail stone in recorded killed 95 people. 6 inches and were about two lbs. Imagine the carnage and destruction. This is just punishment. Angels praise God for just punishment. Why, the law says that blasphemers should be stoned to death. Leviticus 24:14, 14 “Take outside the camp him who has cursed; then let all who heard him lay their hands on his head, and let all the congregation stone him.
At the end of tribulation God is going to carry out the law and rain stones from heaven on all men who have cursed/blasphemed God.
2. Cities throughout the world are going to collapse.
3. Babylon is going to be completely and totally destroyed.
4. Islands will disappear. They will literally sink into the sea.
5. Mountains are going to be removed.
So, most scholars concur that when the seventh vile of judgment is poured out on the earth, Jesus feet will touch the Mt. Olives. When this happens the battle of Armageddon is almost finished before it even starts.
This concludes the seventh vile or judgment and the return of Christ. Which Revelation chapter 19 tells us about. Just like Revelation chapters 10-11:14 is a parenthesis and fills us in, Revelation 17-18 tells how the anit-christ came to power, how Babylon is going to be destroyed, and the women who right’s the beast, the mystery of the beast,
