Hi. I was a RAF NCO in charge of small teams of personnel whose job it was to paint the real things. The days of 'wet on wet' camouflage of the European theater was the main paint scheme for the GR1 until the aircraft became the GR4 with a new paint scheme to go with it. This aircaft looks like it is a 9 Sqn GR4 from Bruggen, an aircraft I would have worked on when I was there from 1990, to 1994. Great job, well done!

Great build, but 1 mistake The Martin baker mk10 ejection seats doesn't have ejection handles on the headrest box, only a single handle on the seat pan between the pilots knees. For the rest a great model.

Erm.... the GR1 had Mk10 seats, which does not include the overhead initiator handle. The last seat to use the overhead handle was the MK 7. I was on XV Sqn back in the '90's... and 19, 208 Hawk T1 Sqn's which also had the Mk 10. Apologies for apple cart and upsetting.

Really, Really Awesome model...Amazing work...But why change the seats from a MK10 to a MK7? I've got 7 years experience working on Tornado Weapons systems, inc AAES, and the MK7 Martin Baker Seat was never fitted to the Tornado. That seat was for F-14's, F-5's, Tombs, F-105's as well as others. The Tornado had a MK10 fitted, with no Head Box 'Bang Handle'.

Hi, fantastic build. Absolutely amazing. On the first scene you fit overhead ejection handles to the seat. RAF aircraft fit Martin Baker Seats. They would be MK 10 seats on the Tornado. Anyway RAF aircraft are not fitted with overhead ejection handles. They have one loop handle that sits between the aircrews legs. Hope this helps.

The “Tonka” just doesn’t look right with the wings swept on the ground, especially with tanks and pods fitted to the pylons, the real thing normally has a trestle under the rear fuselage when sweeping the wings fully back on the ground to prevent “tail sitting”.

The paints are all mentioned in the video at each point. I use Tamiya Acrylics so if you put in a google search for this the you'll be able to see your best options for shops/delivery in your area. Personally I use my local model shop as they have the full range of Tamiya acrylics. If you're airbrushing make sure you pick up X-20A thinners too. To make the pot airbrush ready you can add 2ml of this thinner to a brand new pot so it can be accepted straight from the pot in the future. Hope this help and good luck!

TIN, a couple of questions: 1) you didn't preshade, so did you intentionally let any black primer show through panel lines when painting basecoats? 2) why did you decide to do the overall wash with grey instead of black? Thanks.
@TheInnerNerd
@TheInnerNerd 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael. I use the black-basing technique to get more variation in the top-colour coat by marbling the colour over it. This method can be done in a panel-by-panel manor to get more shading around the panel lines. If you want panel lines to show through the base coats then yes . 2) The grey wash is less stark than the black and I didn't want the finish to be too intense so used black

A well detailed model but marred by inaccurate addition of a face blind handle on the ejection seats in the beginning of the video. Almost stopped watching the rest of the build there and then but enjoyed the rest. Note, it was not practice to leave the aircraft with swept wings when parked; more than one sat on its bum during its life in service due to overlooking the fuel state or load fitted.
