Food is you limiter at the start, then gold. You'll have to rely on Shamans for defense early on, as Spain will send waves of Halberdiers and Arquebusiers at different intervals, Sending one fast unit to draw arquebus fire is a good way to allow your buildings to get accurate shots and prevent your bulk of units from getting hit, as the relentless attacks will keep your Fortress from training enough to mass them.
Depending on the attack route the Spanish take, you will be able to build additional mines in no-man's-land. This will allow you to stockpile gold and stone faster without having to rely on expensive mine upgrades. Watch out for cannon fire.
As you approach 30 minutes, the Spanish will run out of waves to send and their base will be mostly uninhabited. Send Archers to set their Fort on fire by this time, as doing it sooner will just prompt their peasants to repair it to full health.
The Ruins at the South are not worth the effort, as the reward is too small compared to the amount effort required to take it.
