You can really tell that Anthony Daniels is in there though, the mannerism is actually really expressive, given that he acts without a real face. We could tell he is confused without a word being said. Sometimes, for talk show appeareances and such, they used the original costume for C-3PO but had someone else inside, and you could clearly tell. The movement isn't nearly as restricted as the performance makes it look, and that robotic movement must be done purposefully.

Sometimes I wish movies added awkward dialogue like the "Jet fighter . . . Thing-" it makes the characters feel more real and adds a bit of humor that can seem realistic in even serious settings, cause not everything goes perfectly as planned

Some of the best moments is cinema have been improv or adlibbed. And if one actor cracks and laughs, it can help regain composure more quickly if the other doesn't. Otherwise, they could turn into the two kids in the back of the classroom.
