I think the press about her was classist more than racist. It was the classic story of "pretty woman" rags to riches which plays out so well in the tabloids. I think many were cheering her on and thinking it would be lovely to think anyone of such a different class, nationality, background, or race could marry into that historic institution and make a go of representing the country and Monarchy. All she proved is that, not just 'anyone' can. It was such a massive disappointment to see the Queen gifting her (and them as a couple) so much privilege, patronages, titles, tours, on behalf of the UK and Commonwealth from the get-go. With no requirement to prove herself in the role (which literally ALL other family members have had to). And then to see it all spat back in their faces in the most spiteful and nasty way.

Harry seems to me to interpret any criticism as racism - he doesn't employ any critical thinking skills whatsoever. I can't recall his exact words in the Netflix clip that I watched, but a pic was shown of MM wearing an off-the-shoulder dress - the one South Park dressed her character in. Then a pic of Catherine wearing an off-the-shoulder dress flashed up. MM was criticised, Catherine was not. Speaking about this apparently unfair criticism, Harry said something along the lines of "If you can't see it [racism/unconscious bias], then I can't help you". He'd missed the point spectacularly. MM was criticised because she wore this dress to a formal, daytime event and that's a dress etiquette fail. Catherine, by contrast, was wearing hers to a night time gala event which is fine. In any other world it seems petty to criticise MM's choice of attire, but I think the thing to bear in mind is that she was going against rules, protocols, dress codes and behavioural codes 90% of the time and it was beginning to grate. By that time it was obvious that she was doing so deliberately and it seemed that rather than support/represent the Queen and the UK, she held both in contempt.

Today, for the first time, I talked to someone who had heard of Meghan before she bagged the Prince. The one person in North America who watched Suits. This person didn’t like her even then.

I am so glad that you were able to compare and contrast both books because I would never read 'Spare'. The RF had every right to be concerned that Harry became maniacal when he was just dating her. Excellent as always! I saw an interview by Priyanka Chopra about writing her autobiography and how difficult it was. She said she had to speak to loads of family and friends to confirm events etc and it turned out she had misremembered lots of things. That media release by Harry was my first red flag… because up until that point there was *zero* negative press about MM, only positive..and I was thinking ‘what the hell is Harry going on about?’.. what media negativity? She's seemed to have lived her life, especially after high school then trying to be an actress as a white woman and only using the fact she is biracial as a card to play she thought could be beneficial career wise for her and not because she's proud of her race. Doria was missing for several years, so Thomas brought Meghan up. But even during the time they were co-parenting, Thomas Markle still paid for Meghan even when she was with Doria. Apartments, all private schools, drivers licence, cars, vacations, university (she probably scammed him on the university money because now NU can't find ger graduation papers, but she took the money from her father.), internships, all her living costs through university also! Thomas Sr was nominated to an Emmy 11 times and won 2 Emmys. He worked with 2 of the best TV series airing at that time. He knew everybody important in Hollywood. Meghan used him as long as she could. He retired and got diabetes and became too fat and ill. A friend lured him into a business deal, and he lost his retirement money (it wouldn't surprise me if Meghan had something to do with that as well). Samantha herself knew too much about all Meghan's men, Meghan's real age, Meghan's real occupation, and all the scams she had pulled off. Meghan tried to silence Samantha BEFORE Samantha started to talk. Meghan wrecked Samantha's private life and her career. Samantha has University degrees in mental health and psychology. Doria has never worked as a mental care/social care/hospice caretaker/nurse. She has no education and has never been registered working with these jobs in California. Doria's bankruptcy was fishy because she also got sentenced! Meghan has learnt a lot from Doria! Samantha was kind enough not to tell the whole truth! And you're questioning her reasons??? Let me say as a woman of color that there are "hidden phrases" that are used. And not being a person of color someone outside will not get the meaning. So in that it is true. I do however don't think that it applies to Meghan. She has had a privilege that most POC does not. Meghan has moved through her life without the weight of a dark complexion.
