She's both doing evrrything she can for the good of her country/emperor/station and clan. She's using her power to call stuff out and gain power just under the empress by maintaining peace with the empress. And most of all, she's calling out idiots like her own kid for being dumb enough to get caught. Even when she defended Shuang(?). Her evaluation of the girl who lost her maid was "I'll keep an eye on you. Didn't expect you to be this smart of a schemer. But you need to get good if you're going to win". She knows exactly the palace games and how to play them and I kind of love her for it. She's like lawful neutral/evil. Concubine Yue keeps the Empress in check without much effort and has fostered a legitemately power grab for herself and those around her by knowing exactly how to balance what she can get away with to what's right. It's impressive and terrifying. She's terrifying because she knows exactly what position she's in and how to utilize/maintain it. And she's Just enough to uphold standards and lull even the empress into a sense of security with her rather than without her. She is a bridge and she's chosen to not let anyone, even her natal family push her around. She also has Empathy and insight that... Yeah you don't ever see in a concubine from a drama. Who else would say "I tank the same as the empress and beat out two other women to be here. I have what I want don't cross me."?

She was the first wife when he was a prince with no power and was meant to be the Empress after they succeeded in their fight for power and the empress clearly knows it. Yue agreed with her husband who has always been in love with her to marry the current empress to help him stabilize their power/country because of her powerful clan then. Yue is smart & loyal and puts the country/her husband first and won't let herself or others jeopardize what they fought for & earned painfully. She knows & understands what she means to her husband so she doesn't need to fight another woman when she has his heart. Empress is cool tempered, humble, a woman of virtue and definitely easy to get along with. Their temperaments complement each other & I think there was either an unspoken or spoken agreement to get along. Empress has the emperor's affection and Concubine Yue has emperor's love. He respects both of them. Yue tries to keep to her place in order to keep her peace & ensures to not overstep her position. She's very smart, firmer, a disciplinarian, tough, not easy to bully and in this way in difficult situations she complements the empress. Empress is firm enough but tends to cower or not speak out her mind to the emperor because she has that inferiority of not being the woman the emperor loves. Yue also has "street smarts" so she knows how bad girls play & can subdue them in the palace to keep peace for their Harem when needed. And her man let's her to be in charge of such situations as she won't spare anyone including her own kids or relatives. Yue knows those thoughts of the emperor which aren't okay for him to say as she knows & understands his heart & mind, so she becomes his and the empress' mouthpiece in such situations. The empress also counts on her to do the "not so gentle cleaning" with or for her because she's one tough tigress but also just and won't disrespect her.

🌸 There’s never been an issue between the Empress or the Consort because the Consort has never wanted to be queen. She’s known and loved the Emperor from before he ascended the throne and he feels the same way. Both women have a place in the Emperor’s heart. He admires the Empress’s quiet spirit while he loves the Consort as his soulmate. Both women support him in their own ways.

I kept waiting for the "shoe to drop" and for her to be revealed as a patient [evil] mastermind or something like that. It never happened and I love that it didn't. This is the way to subvert audience expectations by turning a character that is usually a snake into someone that is honorable and is happy with their lot in life.

She is definitely queen material. He's a lucky guy to have 2 awesome queens.
