I've been a carpenter for almost 40 years. Always use the right tool for the right job if it breaks or bends it means you're not using it properly. If people use a Spyderco as a pry bar knowing in advance that it has a thin tip obviously it's going to break. Every tool is designed for a certain job use it properly and it will not fail you. In 40 years the only tools that ever got broken are the ones that I loaned to my friends who don't know how to use tools properly.

Gonna disagree with you. Tools and/or metal will flex, bend and break all the time. Most of the time it's metal fatigue or just poorly made metal that contained flaws. The ultimate issue is that you market a item to be tough or as well as all you need whether as a EDC or in a survival situation then the product should be able to handle abuse.

And yeah 940 is top dog. Designed by a real rancher. Enough said. That reverse tanto with that reinforced tip is the best looking blade ever imo & it can take a beating most blades can’t take. Can’t tell you how much heavy prying I’ve done with my 940 & never broke. I tried carrying a pm2 & broke the tip in like the first 2 weeks of carrying it lol got my 940 and that’s all I need. I have much much more expensive knives but none can take the 940 out my pocket.

If I could only have one, it would be the 940. But just maybe I can do both. Great point at the end. You don’t know what others are dealing with. Keep an open mind. I have both and love them both but see them as quite different. Even though both are buttery smooth the 940 edges out the PM2 in how fast it deploys and closes with ease. My 940 has become my Sunday knife...it’s form is more suitable for pocket carry in my church pants it’s more eloquent...to me more of a gentlemen’s knife. However the PM2 is my everyday carry the other 6 days due to the confidence I have with it in hand for larger tasks as well as small tasks. Both are amazing!

First one I received was tampered with, someone swapped the s90v for a D2 blade, whole thing might have been counterfeit idk. Replacement 940-1 looks nice but pretty dull, touched it up on the kme for now but the angle on one side is much steeper than the other. Will shave hair now but need to reprofile it in the future and even those grinds ups. After that this will probably be my main carry, so might and thin compared to my pm2. Lighter than my pm3 lw as well.

ANNNNND YOU'RE A PASTOR!!! NICE! I thought that Hebrews verse was a cool one there on your 940. I went through a period where I was a skeptic when I was younger, but there is something radically cool that happens to your life when you accept Jesus and don't look back. LOL..like reckless abandon for God. Like you don't just know about God, or read about stories of people who knew Him, you experience Him in your own life. That's a beautiful thing. I can't speak for others, but God radically came into my life at a whole other level when I started helping start a church and going to small groups. When I first met my pastor I heard him tell me "If you wanna see God work in your life...serve". I did NOT want to hear that. I thought he was just trying to talk me into helping out because he needed people...and that COULD have been part of it.....but he wasn't kidding. The atmosphere and grace on my life is thick and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I won't lie, people aren't always the easiest to deal with, but I desire the power of God and blessing on my life so much that I walk through it and try to serve as faithfully as I can and it's always worth it. Jesus is the best thing that's ever happened to me.

Very comprehensive comparison between two favorite US made knives, Rev. Thank you for an exhausting effort. My brother is a dedicated Benchmade type of guy, the kind of person who only owns one knife, period. . And because he lives abroad and occasionally looses his one knife, I usually replace it with another Benchmade. Me, I like owning a few different folders, mostly budget knives with AUS 8 steel, or its equivalent as I am able to keep my knives razor sharp at all times. Given a choice, I would prefer the Spyderco because of the full flat grind blade; but then again, I really like the Benchmade Axis lock. Personally, both these knives are out of my price range. My solution? A Ganzo G729. Look like a PM2, but with a nice piston lock. Decent steel for my urban use, solid built, and available for under $20.

Nice tests, I have a 940-2 and like it pretty decently. I need to get locktite for it though because my pivot keeps coming loose on it. My 940 also has a bunch of micro chips in the blade from cutting cardboard, which is odd because s30v usually doesnt for me. I also have a LW manix 2 in s110v which I like more, that doesnt microchip as easily which suprised me. S110v is supposed to be chippy, but I only have 1 chip and that was from hitting concrete being stupid lol. The manix has better ergos, is lighter, and cuts better so for me it's my preference.
@gns9422 жыл бұрын
Picked up a 940-2 a few days ago to replace a PM2 as an EDC. While I liked the PM2, it is too bulky due to the handle shape and length, as well as the Spyderco hole in the blade. The 940-2 is a lot slimmer and lighter, and it has pretty much the same blade length with a much stronger tip that's still sharp enough to pierce or drill a hole.

I never 'warmed' to the PM2. It's a truly excellent product (and I do have other Spyderco's) but I found that the hype didn't live up to it. In fact I gave mine to my son and don't miss it at all. I bought the Shaman as a replacement for my PM2 (before the prices went up) and although it's another great folder, it's way too heavy for EDC use. The standard 940 ticks all the boxes for me and I'm thinking of trading my Shaman for a second 940 if I can get a good deal...

The ergonomics on the PM2 are far superior, especially in wet conditions and with gloves on. The tall full flat grind allows the PM2 to be thinner behind the edge, and if used in a self defense role, the wider blade creates a larger wound for the same depth.

I have a p3 in s35vn, s110v, and maxamet is my newest for example. While I do keep my 940 in my collection, it’s not one that i carry all the time. Also you could go ahead and get a pm2 and a leatherman for your paint can prying needs (which I literally do because you can’t beat a leatherman for really hard stuff) and you’ll still have some money left over. I don’t ever recall using a folding pocket knife to bore a hole in wood. I own both the 940 and the PM2, and Para 3 with S110V. The 940 is a power house knife for EDC because it is easy to deploy yet has a slim package. The Spyderco’s have a far superior blade steel with the S110V that makes it a high performance and compact EDC. Note that if you buy a Para 3, you will want to buy a Lynch deep pocket clip.
@lenaguilar5013 жыл бұрын
I was at the store yesterday and I checked so many 940 variants. They were beautiful. Then I asked for a PM2 and a Para3. The Para3 felt small for me, just like the 940. The store showed me a Griptilian with hole. I like the hole. It became comparable with the PM2. After scrutinizing both, I was torn, but I ended up choosing the PM2. I just like the way it feels. My EDC knife is a Kershaw Funxion EMT, and the blade (saber) is similar to the Griptilian. That’s another reason I chose the PM2 so that I can have a flat blade. Now I carry 2 knives, the PM2 and the Funxion. I might get a very small OTF soon. Thank you for your video. I’m a Marine and a first responder.

But a lot of people go to get these ones. Also these are the 2 popular expensive ones around the same price

Love the PM2 because I own one. Honestly I don’t like the looks of either of them! I love both companies, but I’m currently EDCing the Contigo or Cold Steel Code 4. Always looking for something better. Knifeaholic.

I really like both of them the only complaints I have with them is with the 940 they handle is incredibly small for me my hands are huge but they are big and they can't hold the knife with confidence with the Spyderco the only complaint I have is sharp edges but you can knock those down very easily

I appreciate the brotherly Christian blessings at the end of your videos. Thanks for that RevHiker. The knives: You mentioned opening paint cans with the tip of you Spyderco. Try using the thumb hole (closed blade) to open paint cans. Been doing it for years and years. The round tomb hole on the blade in closed position will open paints cans fast. Thanks Rev!

I love to see a knife that has some wear that you know has been used more than a weekend in somebody's pocket!

Own them both and many variants of the pm2. I like to carry both of them from time to time but if i could only pick one it would be my pm2 s90v hands down.

I have the pm2 it was much bigger than I thought it would be but it is fantastic cutter. If I had to do it over I'd probably get the benchmade 945

Just picked up a para 2. Seems good so far.

I carry a benchmade grip and its a great knife but if the spring on the axis lock breaks the knife is worthless. I had 2 of the 3 tiny screws holding the clip on fell out but that was my mistake not taking care of the knife.

I own several Spyderco knives, Several Endura 4s and a few Delicas. I also own a few Benchmade 940s and one Benchmade 940-1. My opinion is that both are great knives, I also think their intended purpose was for EDC. However, I think the daily carry for each was for 2 different type of people. My Spyderco knives do fulfill my NORMAL EDC. With light to medium use. I do like the leaf blade shape. However, the point is a “dual edge sword” type of thing. It is very useful in piercing. However, it is too thin for heavier work. My Benchmade 940s I carry when I’m going to do some carpenter, or other type of heavy use work. I like the blade shape for that. Also, the tip is much stronger. My 940-1 I do work with sometimes, but I also like to carry it when I am somewhat dressed up. I’ve no idea why. I think it’s the carbon fiber. But in the other pocket I also carry an Endura 4. If it’s a serious situation, I carry a cold steel Voyager, or a Recon One, with 4 inch blades. Just my thoughts.
