In this video, I will be unboxing and reviewing a 10 years old model of 1930 Cadillac V16 Roadster made by Danbury Mint. This is an incredibly detailed 1/12 diecast replica.

legendary model! google tells me Mr. Eugene F Suski was a resident of New York and passed away on Tuesday, January 7, 2020. Maybe his family sold this as part of his estate? I know at least one model in my own collection, a maybach 62, was sold by the children of a deceased person. Creepy! Happy Halloween! :)

Great investigation! Thanks for the information, this means that I am probably the second owner (if I don't count his children who sold it to some eBay store which then sold it to me without probably even noticing the tire issue)

I bought this model new. For the quality and detail it was a bargain even at, $500.00 US. The tire separating from the whitewall is common. I called Danbury and they sent me some new tires but it didn't really fix the problem. SO, your in good company. Everyone who has one of these has the tire problem according to Danbury customer service. Regardless of the tire issue I can forgive that because the rest of the model is so well executed. The cloth part is the cover for the convertible top. Enjoy, I think this is probably the best model "ever" to come out of Danbury.

That model is just wonderful. - It seems to be imported to our time, and it's just shrunken. Mentioning the tyre issue: Perhaps you should claim a costless fixing of the tyres or a costless replacement.

Hi there, Great video by the way! I have the same exact car and I inherited it along with quite a few other diecast cars of different sizes from the Danbury mint and most of them are still in the original boxes but this car is one that was taken out of the box and put on display and I did want to say that the tires are also big and loose on mine. I’m thinking maybe that’s just how they were made. I do have all the original packaging and certificate along with the actual receipt from the Danbury mint and the price at the time it was bought in Aug of 2008 was $495 plus $15 for shipping and service. 👍

Thank you for sharing! Beautiful model. I was not aware of DM making something like this. In order to familiarize yourself with cars of this type it is suggested you watch some videos of cars of this type. The popup seat in the back is called a "rumble seat." It was common on cars of this type (roadster, coupe) & time (c. 1920' & 1930's) . Take good care of the model!

Actually the tire problem is the result of the weight of the car which causes the tires to stretch! You can probably do something about them. I chose to leave mine original as this comes with the car! Definitely a museum piece! The little green vent in the front is actually an air vent! The compartment on the side is to store the golf clubs!

Beautiful model of an amazing car! Congratulations. Quite sorry about the tires. I like your idea to resize them. I am curious about the headlamp lenses though. They appear to a bit cloudy, that is, not clear. I wonder if that is the way they are supposed to be. I know you are a bit disappointed and if it makes any difference, the problems your model has may be common to all that were made. It would not hurt to contact Danbury Mint. A premium model like that could have a warranty or at least some factory support. Chances are that those tires are also found on some of their other products. Maybe they have even made other 1930 Cadillac V-16’s in different body styles, so their be some new old stock (NOS) factory replacement tires. I hope so. Regards.

I actually discovered that there are more people like me having the same issue. There are forum posts suggesting to cut and resize the wheels and when I check some other pictures, the other samples of this model have exactly the same problem. Once I find courage, I will proceed. But at the moment it is in display shelve and honestly - nobody who visits would notice this. And honestly, nobody from my friends and relatives has any clue about models and pricing :)

@@ExternalStar The tire issue is very common if not universal for this model. For mine, I cut a small cross section out of the 6 tires and re-glued them together. For each tire, I did a single cut, test fit the tire around the rim to determine how much to cut off, then glued the ends together. If you are careful, the seams are barely visible. Years later, they still look fine and have not stretched any further.

@neilperry2224

The model is supposedly based on a Cadillac V16 the was gold-plated by Liberace and for a time the car was at a high end car restoration/dealers in London. I think DD Classics had it. The little bag is a Golf bag to go with the very small golf clubs to go with the car. Why don't you take them off and put them in hot water and then freezing iced water and that might shrink the tyres back to normal sized for the rims. The seats in the rear are called a 'dickey seat or 'mother-in-law seat'. The white cover is the tonneau cover for the fabric roof to protect it when closed.

Is this actually a proven way how to do this or just some sort of alchemy that will actually never work?

@@ExternalStar it works for metal and for shrinking bearings into smaller bearing seats but also speak to tthe KZfaq who does tonka toy restorations and usees heat to remove the white wall rubber inserts from the plastic wheels of the toys. He uses the science of muscle memory and the rubber should go back to its og state.

1 Run hot water over the rubber. At first, try using tap water. ... 2 Place the rubber in boiling water if hot tap water fails to shrink the rubber. The high heat will force the rubber to shrink if you allow it to boil for 5 to 10 minutes. ... 3 Bend the rubber into shape.

You would have saved yourself some time and not risked breaking any delicate latches, etc., if you read the instructions, which I assume would have been with it. You didn't say they weren't so I'll assume they were. Delco batteries are owned by General Motors and were founded in 1916. That little "compartment" at the back of the hood near the windshield is simply an air vent to the interior. The license plate says Conn., which is short for the state of Connecticut where I live. I realize by your accent that you are foreign, so I'm not trying to criticize you, but rather educate you to some things you weren't sure of. I had read about the tire problem which is really a shame as the model otherwise seems well built. I would contact someone who can do 3-D printing or a company on line that specializes in it and I'm sure you can fix that problem. Al you would need to do is paint them black and with whitewalls. Good luck to you sir!

Ugh! Totally NOT worth $1200.. loose parts, 'flat' tires & the color is horrible.. metallic green??? (Metallic paint didn't EXIST in 1930; cars back then were brush-painted, then sanded/polished. There was no such thing as metallic paint or clear coating or any of that. Not to mention the color is just awful (were it mine, I'd repaint right off, prob'ly in black & yellow -like the one on Jay Leno's Garage..). The tires aren't SO bad (you can recast them, but probably not out of rubber).. The details are nice & the size is fun, but it's totally like a $200 toy, MAXIMUM.. (too much work to do -it's a big model kit at this point, lol -if the engine actually ran, on gasoline, THEN you'd have something!) And to top it all off, it's made in China!!! $1200??? I'd give you 60 bucks for it... (PS: "Button",lolol?! It's the FUEL CAP, fool, lol.. And you've never seen a rumble seat before, with steps up the rear fender? With all those cars on your shelves? It was pretty common in the 20s & 30s... RULE NUMBER ONE: BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING: READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!)
