I had one back in '06 & I loved it!

The best family car I have ever owned, I love that’s it’s 4 doors with a big usable trunk. Love having the wife and kids pile in. We have a big full size Ford Expedition but I find myself pulling this out of the garage more often than not. M113 is one of the last bulletproof amg motors before the M156 and M157 motors.

An informative, interesting, well balanced review, excellent--thanks! I owned a brilliant old W124 E300--a magic machine which led to my current car, a 2005 W211 E350 AvantGarde. The W211 series, as you say, has beautiful, timeless, classic lines which I think so much preferable to the following W212 E-Class or the preceding W210. I agree again with the relative ease of maintenance and my experience has been high-reliability, especially with oil change (using only premium synthetic) and servicing every six-months. The main caveats are almost universal failure of the optical? cabling for the Comand GPS navigation system by age 13 years and probable wear of the balance shaft drive cog on the 3.5 and 5.0 engines (requiring expensive replacement of the cog which was defective as originally supplied to MB). Long live our wonderful machines :-)

I just got my hands on a 2008 e550 about 3 weeks ago, coming from an ML430. I work a lot so i haven't had much time to play with it and figure out all the features. I didn't even know the cup holders were in the arm rest so i enjoyed the video lol. These things do move!

Thanks Graham. Excellent review. Just bought a 2005 (silver) example here in Dubai. Paid about $7800. It has 100K miles on it and is in excellent condition. Will have to spend another $2000 on a major service. After that's done it will be a spectacular 'bangs for bucks' bargain. I agree with mainstream opinion that the 2005 iteration was the best looking one. Don't like the angles and sharp edges that crept in later. The leather is in great shape - just some sympathetic creases - otherwise in great condition (unlike my wife's US assembled ML 350 (2013) where the paper thin leather on the driver's seat now has a gaping hole after very occasional use (less than 35K miles).

Love this car! I have an 04 E55 and I grin everytime I drive it. Btw, we have 8 piston brakes up front ;-)

You've done your research and now I am doing mine on the E55 series. Of all the different variants or personas with that brute, bulletproof 5.4 motor, I settled on this girls, myself. one cool thing that not many cars have is with the headlight switch if you pull it out once you get regular front fog light if you pull one more level you get rear fog lights which is pretty useful. not sure if you knew but thought i would mention that

Thanks for the informative video. I'm in the planning stages of buying an AMG from this era but debating c55 or e55. The c seems like it has less things that can go with it. My concerns for the e are rebuilding the supercharger and the airmatic suspension. How is the blower holding up on yours?

In the market for one and almost all are well over 100k miles. What would you recommend seeing as far as completed service after 100k miles? I am a maintenance but and if the seller doesn't have records I pass. Your thoughts?

Had a 2005 e55 AMG. I really suggest that you only own this an AMG with a factory warranty. Especially post 100k. As any credible source will say. Though you can get these for under 10k, and maybe get 10k miles before having sent to the scrap yard. But I think your review is spot on for an owner that hasn’t been hit with the reality of AMG reliability, vs Mercedes (e350 reliability. Handling was horrible well before the limit. The power was great when it wasn’t in “limp home mode. Which can happen after 20 minutes of aggressive driving. Or during the months of service during the first 60k. First month was to do a top engine restore. The second time was to then do a bottom end restore. Other time spent in an e350 (assuming you had a MB warranty and you bitched enough about gettin C class loaner) included what would have been a very expensive air suspension. Repairs to the tranny and other smaller issues. The final nail in the coffin was when the car went into roll over mode from hitting a small curb and all the air bags went off. Causing me to then ride the curb,which turned into a high curb as it was a construction zone. luckily the insurance paid off the car loan and MB matched that as the data indicated there was no roll over and wanted to avoid a lawsuit and bad press. I have read about t of reliability issues. Several success stories. And my experience is a worst case example, but turned out to be a best case example of how it didn’t cost me anything out of pocket to own the car for 4 years others than gas service and an extended warranty purchase.

I'm sorry man, could be a result of having a few drinks, but your "head cam" made me feel like vomiting, and irritated me to where I turned off about a third of the way through. I get that you were trying to display a first perspective type video, but I think your same video filmed from various stationary positions could be just as informative....On a side note, I must add that I have a HTC vive and Vive Pro VR headset's which I comfortably use with no motion sickness.
