great review, I just recently traded my 2015 wrx in for a 2016 forester (had a baby and got tired of the wrx's sporty nature while shuttling a baby around). everything you said is pretty much on point, its not a wrx replacement but it's the only midsize suv that really felt like an enthusiast car aside from maybe the cx5 which just doesn't have nearly as much power(great 6 speed auto though). the 2016(and possibly the 2015) now has the boost gauge from the wrx and also the silver HVAC controls. one weird interior difference is that the wrx had soft touch materials on top of the doors and the forester just has hard plastic. also the starlink head unit is a massive improvement over the junky old Subaru hu's in previous years. I do miss the manual but the cvt in sport # is really quite a bit of fun. overall, like you said a pleasant and amusing car to drive.

I'm glad you reviewed this car and acknowledged that the transmission is far superior to a standard cvt. All of the gripes you had about the interior were fixed with the 2016 btw :) The new infotainment system is amazing.

Just bought my first subaru and i couldn't be more excited. 2006 Impreza Outback Sport 5-spd. It's awesome bone stock right now but it won't stay stock for very long

I have a 04 xt in a 5speed manual. I lucked out and seen one at a local used car lot. Turned out to be a southern vehicle. So for being 14years old now. The rocker panels and wheel wells as no rust. Im getting ready to change out the shift bushings and gonna put on a short throw.

Great review! Take the Forester off the road and onto a trail and you will be equally if not more impressed. It's really the best all around vehicle you can buy on and off road. That's why I think they have the following that they have. I just bought the 2017 XT which is the last year of the turbo I believe. The only real complaint I have about the car so far is that the stereo sucks! Hopefully an aftermarket unit and speakers is in order soon.

My mom has a 2015 with the 2.5 and I must say that the car is very smooth driving and is quick even without having a turbo. I also know what you mean about the steering being light at low speed which is nice when driving around town or when in parking lots, but picks up some weight when at highway speed so you don't lose all the feeling of the car.

I have the same model year but in blue. I wanted a WRX, fiance' wanted a small suv. This was the perfect compromise.

Can't compare a compact SUV to a compact sedan (WRX) but nice review as usual.

Great review Matt. I have a 2014 XT with eyesight and 2016 STi. Still surprised when I drive the XT how fast it is on the hwy in sport sharp. Steering really tightens up as you push it. I also have a 2014 Audi S4 in 6spd if you are traveling to Canada and want to review it!:)

I whish Subaru were offering a regular 6 speed automatic transmission. I know there is upsides to the CVT, but to me it kind of ruins the otherwise awesome car, no matter if it's the legacy 3.6R, the outback or the forester XT.

I have a 2015 XT (Aus) and it states 0-100km in 7.5 secs, yet a lot of US reviews of this car states 0-60 in low to mid 6's? Anyone explain this?

My dad has a 2014 Forester N/A so this looks familiar...

A turbo charged subaru with out some sort of hood scoop is pointless!!! haha. I mean I hate how low profile they are now. Wish we still had the hideous loaf box scoops of the old WRX/STI's

The only real problem with the Forester is the cheap looking interior. The CX5's interior is just on another level of sophistication. If they update this interior to something similar to the new Legacy, then I would definitely consider it. Otherwise, CX5 Diesel all the way

You should incorporate the competitors these vehicles compete with and the price point of these vehicles to make your reviews more credible.

I always here people talk about how quick some of the earlier fozzys were with a manual, and wish I had bought one back then instead of the garabae GTi I got instead......but the current forester SJ is a bit bigger and more of a slob then previous, but has a lot of great on and off road qualities. 6.2 0-60 is pretty good for the class and for the price doesn't get faster. The CVT is obviously the weak point, but will handle about another 50 wheel horsepower if you need it. Idk, it is like a different car from the 2005 FXT. If only they had sold more mt FXT in the past, then they would still offer it in the US. I guess 50 year old women don't drive stick.

Modern subaru interiors are so cheap looking. It's like they designed an interior for the cheapest model imprezza and carried it over through all their cars.

I still love Subaru, went thru my STI phase. It's a shame the internals are so fragile on all of them. That alone will keep me away from the brand, that and the awful OEM stereos!!

06 forester is still the best, interior has its own character and is not ported from wrx, 2.5 engine was in the forester first, looks good and more sports orientated!!!

Am I the only one that prefers the previous gen Forester over this one? The only good part of the new one for me is the CVT replacing that god awful four-speed auto.
