Owned 1 month: We share our thoughts and experiences thus far of our new 2021 Honda CRF125FB.
We purchased this new 2021 Honda CRF125FB (Big Wheel) from Western Honda in Scottsdale, on 2/26/2021. Our Salesman Dennis was great to work with and very helpful through the purchase process. This is video #9 in our 2021 Honda CRF125FB video series. We purchased this Honda trail bike with hopes that adults and our growing kids will make memories and find adventure while riding it. We invite you to follow along as we ride this bike, evaluate it, and modify it to meet our needs.
Modifications/Upgrades:
#1 - Chain guard removed

I just replaced the stock 49 tooth rear sprocket with a 50 tooth. Great decision, I needed more grunt and less top speed, didn’t have to change the chain. It’s even easier not to kill in first gear. I do live in the mountains.

I am currently 5’7 at 13 and have a lot of growing left to go. I have absolutely loved dirt bikes ever since I was little and owned a crf50 a while back and sold it. Anyways, to the question: should I go for a 125FB or jump straight to the 250f?

This has lots of torque in 1st then? I am considering it so that myself and the kids can all use it. I’m tall and 230lbs though, but it’s for tight wooded northeastern trails. Bigger bikes just aren’t fun there.

Yessir, lots of torque in first and second too. This bike is great for slow trails with the low gearing in first. For me this is a great anybody-can-hop-on-and-have-fun bike.

I almost bought one of those, but got a Suzuki DRZ125L instead. Because, the Suzuki is a 5 speed, costs a lot less, has alloy rims instead of chromed steel, and has a real chain guide by the rear sprocket, instead of the single piece of plastic. I really wanted the Honda, but couldn't get past those things, especially with the price difference.
@SouthwestORV
@SouthwestORV 3 жыл бұрын
DRZ125L is a great bike! In my opinion, the brand new frame/design, thicker seat, and fuel injection on the Honda outweigh the other items you mentioned. But at the end of the day, both bikes will be reliable, and fun for years to come.

@@SouthwestORV just a question, what's the big deal with fuel injection what it does for the bike?
@SouthwestORV
@SouthwestORV 2 жыл бұрын
Several things. Generally speaking, FI machines get better fuel economy, have better throttle response, and do not require tuning with altitude changes. Also, for some reason they tend not to clog up when they sit for a while, like the carburetors do.

Question I have the 125f standard does the big wheel version make a difference like is it faster or taller
@SouthwestORV

Hi Connor. The big wheel version is taller, because it has more suspension travel and larger wheels. But it is not faster. Does that help?

If you like to trail ride in a relaxed/recreational way, yes it'll work great for you! If you are wanting to wheelie off the throttle and win a race against your buddies, this is not the bike for you. A DRZ400 is tall and heavy compared to this bike. Did you like the 400? I have ridden both as well, for what it is I love the little CRF. I don't expect too much out of it, and it never lets me down. I'm not taking big jumps or anything like that, I'm just exploring and having fun and this little bike is great for that. I'm 5'8 and about 180lbs.

I am a 44 year old man, looking for my first bike now. I am the same height and weight as you and I have been looking at this bike as well. I can't seem to feel comfortable sitting on anything much taller. Do you think I will outgrow this quickly?
@SouthwestORV
@SouthwestORV 3 жыл бұрын
Good morning, Jason. Yes, and no. What is your personality type? If you are perfectly happy to ride at a relaxed pace, or you don't need to be winning races against your buddies, you could enjoy this bike for a long time! I have ridden much bigger/badder bikes than this, and there is definitely something fun about more suspension, more tire, more power! But, even having ridden and owned those bigger bikes, I love riding this little CRF125FB, and I simply switch my riding style and my expectations. As a first bike I think it's awesome because it is so dang friendly and confidence-inspiring. It's so simple and tough, maintenance is a cinch! And it would be great to develop your skills and balance, and then move up to a CRF250F. If you are a quick learner, and you like to push yourself to go faster and harder and advance quickly, you might soon wish you'd started with the 250F. But if you are patient, and you don't mind putting in the time on the smaller bike, I think you might love the 125FB. I go riding with my buddies on the trails and single tracks around here, and they all ride: KTM450, CRF450X, DR400 - big, heavy, powerful, tall bikes! But guess what, I have fun, they have fun, and nobody is really waiting on anybody. In fact, I usually guide the rides. Let's say worse case scenario you realize after 6 months or a year that you want a bigger bike...at least these 125's hold their value well, and even if you lose $1000 in depreciation over new, call it the cost of dirt bike education tuition. Hope this helps.

@@SouthwestORV After reading that I think this will be perfect for me for quite some time. My purpose in getting a bike is to ride with my son and his step dad on trails around Florida. As you can imagine it is mostly flat, sandy ground with very little elevation changes. There are no tracks that I am aware of and we don't intend to race or hot dog too much. I am pretty risk averse when it comes to something that I can injure myself doing, so I can't see pushing it too hard anytime soon. Who knows though. If the time comes in a couple years I can easily upgrade. Thanks for taking the time to respond!

My son who is shorter and younger than you learned VERY quickly to ride this bike, and it sounds like you have more experience than him. Yes, it will feel big to you maybe the first day, but after that you will be glad you moved up and never want to go back! Based on what you just told me, I promise you will love this bike.
