Incidentally, there appear to be subtle but very important differences between the 4 inch tables of the various suppliers. Only if you look and read very carefully, you will see that there are all kinds of variants. See the Artisan Makes video from three months ago. He bought what appears to be the exact same table as this one, and was very dissatisfied with it. But if you look closely, you will see that there are all kinds of differences with the device I am discussing here. Not only in the execution but apparently also in the fit and finish. Apparently there is a manufacturer somewhere in China that makes the castings, and various companies start working with them and deliver them in quite different qualities.

Given this Vevor units tight tolerances, I'm very tempted to buy it but my Proxxon FF 230 Mill has less Z height than your FF 500 so the "tilt" feature could be more of hinderance than of help.
@Michel-Uphoff
@Michel-Uphoff Жыл бұрын
@@colincreedtattoomachines I think this table won't fit on your mill. Not only the height is a problem if I'm not mistaken. Slot size, Y-travel of the mill will give problems too.

@@Michel-Uphoff Agree & I did consider that, as even the Proxxon UT 250 "holes" don't align correctly with my Mill table, although listed as being for both mine & your Mills, on mine it needs to be severely angled across to find a T-slot & clear the rotating handle for use. Doable but not ideal.

Hi Michel, Good to see a honest unbiased review, not tainted by the supplier. Thank you for your precious time doing this review. Regards Beagles.

Thank you David. I've tried to be as objective as possible, and would have had little qualms about harsh criticism if the device deserved it. But that was not the case. This table is so much better than the one I have, yet only $20 more expensive.

@@rodbutler9864 I think that the steel plate on the screws will solve this issue. Provided that the presence of fitted contact planes is organized. But a removable trampling jack would have looked even better.
@Michel-Uphoff
@Michel-Uphoff Жыл бұрын
@@rodbutler9864 Yes I think that's possible. However, I don't know if it's worth the trouble. I use a micron scale indicator in that shot. I should have mentioned that in the video. And two hundredths of a millimeter is not that much. But, if I ever have to subject that table to a heavier load, I might add such a reinforcement. The point is of course that I also want to make it look attractive, which makes such an improvement less easy.

As always, a very thorough inspection & thoughtful honest review Michel, Well done!! I too bought a "cheapie" 3"(75mm) several years ago which I believe is from India & it was far worse than your first cheap unit. I've since "upgraded" that to the Proxxon UT 250 which is 4" (100mm) but it has issues & looks almost identical to your first unit. As you show, the build quality of this Vevo unit is exceptional in these smaller sized units. Assuming "that quality" wasn't just something they've specially sent out, then Vevor could really excel within this small market.

Forgotten: That UT 250. I have seen it, not tiltable and same design as my little disaster. Here in the Netherlands they ask € 210 for it. Just curious, what are the issues with it?
@colincreedtattoomachines
@colincreedtattoomachines Жыл бұрын
@@Michel-Uphoff It has similar issues that your first unit (disaster) has, Lock Screw throws Table to one side, bearing support is same (lacking at top). It's almost identical aside from the fact the UT 250 has its Table removable so that the Proxxon Chucks can be mounted instead. Nice concept but lacking in that "top" stability, which seeing your modifications, I'm considering doing similar.

Very nice and thorough review. My hesitation is that Vevor knew they were sending it for review, and if they spent 10 seconds looking at your channel they knew what it was in for. There's the possibility it got a little extra love versus what I might get if I ordered.

Vevor is a reseller, they don't have the facilities to give some extra TLC to equipment for reviewers. That doesn't make it impossible but unlikely.

I think that little table looks very nice! The four cut through T slots open up some extra clamping possibilities, but I would really miss the MK2 taper center hole that's on my 4" Vertex. It makes the set up super fast. Key slots at the bottom is a must. I made a 6 " round fixture plate, inspired by Clickspring. It has lots of M6 holes and 8 mm holes for dowel pins. Those pins are useful for preventing the work piece from spinning during corner rounding operations. It easy to machine various slim clamps to fit the small space. If there is no center hole in the table, one can be made in the fixture plate. A steel plug with spigots of different dimensions make set up for corner rounding very quick. Yesterday I rounded of a piece of 10x60 mm aluminum bar, and trepanned a 45 mm stepped center hole in it. It went very smooth. The trepanning would have taken ten times longer using a boring head. Looking forward to see your mods!
@Michel-Uphoff
@Michel-Uphoff Жыл бұрын
Hi Paul, Maybe I'll make a central hole in that table, but I'm afraid there isn't enough room for a full blown MT2 taper. But an accurately reamed 12mm straight hole could be an alternative. Many Proxxon attributes are equipped with 12 mm straight shafts. But first I'm going to make that adjustable 90 degree stop, and the key slots in the bottom. That other small annoyance, the missing stick, has already been solved.
@paullehmor982
@paullehmor982 Жыл бұрын
@@Michel-UphoffA straight hole would be perfect. I recently made a 12 mm plug with a rim at the top (to keep it from falling through), and a center hole. I use it for fast centering of my collet blocks with a gauge pin in the mill spindle. I learned that the center hole in the plug must be turned. It is not safe to trust a reamer to preserve concentricity, no matter if the hole is drilled or turned.
@Michel-Uphoff
@Michel-Uphoff Жыл бұрын
@@paullehmor982 I think it depends on how you use the reamer. I never remove more than 0.05 to 0.1 mm and I usually do that in the same setup in which I made the previous hole. But if you do it in the lathe with the reamer in the tailstock, then you do have to watch out if the alignment isn't perfect. There are special floating reamer holders for this purpose.

@@Michel-Uphoff FWIW on the smaller Proxxon Lathe & Mill that I've got, a 10mm straight shaft is their "standard". I think that yours being the "next size up" utilises the 12mm as its standard.

That disaster rotary table is the same one I got, it was indeed a disaster😂. I spent hours trying to fix the play and rigidity, it didn't pay off. I recommend spending money on a vortex rather than getting something that you will end up in the garbage.

I'd be more suspicious of the chuck. I purchased the same Chuck for my Sorba rotary table and it arrived with one of the locator pegs for the jaw adjuster screws, broken, one tang of the "U" shaped jaw was missing. Not in the chuck, so it was missing when it was assembled. So much for QC. I wrote to aliexpress but never got anywhere. So far, it seems to not interfere with the operation of the chuck. What was the manufacture of your first rotary table? Mine is strictly a horizontal/vertical table by Sorba whom I think are Polish, but I could be wrong. Generally I've been more than satisfied with their products, distributed by Busy Bee Tools in Canada.

The problem is Vevor is a reseller, not a manufacturer. When they order the next crate or container of rotary tables or any such device, it's unlikely that they will be the same or of the same build quality. Does Vevor have their own Quality Assurance or inspection department? No.
@Michel-Uphoff
@Michel-Uphoff Жыл бұрын
Can you substantiate that statement? Here's why: Vevor: "All the products have got the Certificate of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System, the CE mark and already registered in FDA of the USA. ISO 9001:2015 is a worldwide standard that sets requirements for a strong Quality Management System." If - as you suggest - it's a matter of luck, because in your opinion Vevor buys haphazardly without caring for quality, despite that certificate, then one should see a lot of bad reviews. I think that the viewers are very capable of looking for reviews on other products sold by Vevor.

You should be asking these questions to the people in India making tables like these, absolutely zero quality control, well absolutely zero quality of control. At least vevor is buying chinese products that are made to some standard. Even though youll still need to do some cleanup it wont be covered in gee and smell of curry.

Your flex testing is flawed as it includes any flexing of the mill table relative to the column.
@Michel-Uphoff
@Michel-Uphoff Жыл бұрын
Indeed, the arrangement could lead to a slightly higher deflection than if the dial indicator was mounted directly on the table itself. So, the real deflection is even less. Incidentally, all blockages were firmly tightened, so I didn't expect much influence.

Not sure why vevor would send you this style when this is a flawed design over the square or round hv table. These od shaped tables are made by someone who was chasing problems and finding no solution. . No matter what you do it'll never achieve more then. .2 inches of accuracy. When they sell the round and square style with thrust bearings and worm gear that circles the whole under side of the table. Definitely stay away from this style even the tilting ones, just get the hv4. Even better z quit playing with these little things that are hsrd enough to manufacture and go to a hv6, the larger you go tbe more precision youll achieve
