These (and many other vintage Seiko) are extremely undervalued. So many vintage swiss watches with common and not in house movements are fetching 2500-3000, and you can still find these King Seikos well under 1000. This is easily a 3000-4000 watch.

So true! This is an incredibly high quality movement as well, something you won't find outside of the Grand Seiko line up now. I should actually pick a few more of these older Grand and King Seikos while they are still available at these prices!

@@JustWatches1 great video! I was wondering what's the difference between 45-7000 and 45-7001? What is a good price for one of these in good condition and serviced. Thanks!

Got my 45 7001, my first vintage watch yesterday. The handwind mechanism and timekeeping are amazing. The watch is worth more than it's current market value. Glad to have one in my small collection.

Yes, these are very underrated in my opinion. Also, the do not build movements like this anymore, unless you are getting a luxury watch. Congrats on the pick up!

I just bought a 4502 7001 for $530 from Japan. Not pristine but dial is very good and movement is great, I’m surprised I could get such a nice example for only $530. So values of these has not really moved much the last 5 years, this could change so I’m happy I was able to get one.

It's unreal how cheap these can be had for. Vintage Omega and Rolex from the same period goes for way, way more. The movements in these vintages King Seikos are built like tanks.

Very informative documentary, having a clean version of tv cased 5246 KS makes me lucky i guess. In terms of today +6 seconds for my KS(Serviced a while ago) is a good challenge to many Swiss watches of today. The watchmaker told me to not sell the KS.

@@JustWatches1 the Swiss forbade them to put it on the dial. Anyways after that seiko established their own metrics of grand seiko certified that even more stringent than the swiss one and id still in use till today. Btw try to find a clear case back for it. 1. The movement is too beautiful not to look at. 2. You save the gold medallion from corrosion.

@@JustWatches1 not sure if my reply got deleted or didn’t send but here’s attempt 2: The best you can probably get is the BoR bracelet from Forstner. Highest quality and beautiful execution. Personally though, I’m getting the BoR bracelet from ThoseWatchGuys as it is cheaper with seemingly sufficiently good quality. Plus, they got a picture of a 4502-7001 in their BoR listing of their online shop. So you can already see how perfect it works on a BoR bracelet. I’ve been wanting a BoR bracelet for the longest time already and keep dreaming of rocking this combination myself, but I am forcing myself to wait until Black Friday to get a little discount on it (due to budgeting limits) Very hyped though! You should totally get one and make a video about it. More people need to know how perfect this works together.

Yours has a chronometer rating. The number on the movement in between the caliber number and “Japan” proves it. They weren’t all market on the dial.also that medallion is solid gold. Also it’s acrylic not mineral crystal 😀

Just stumbled on your Great little video. You sound like you have great passion for the KS45 So you know, the watch you have there is a Chronometer, it has a 6 digit serial number under the movement number on the train wheel bridge. This piece is very special to me also. Many secrets have been lost about its history. Let me know if you want to know more. Cheers 👍🇯🇵🙏

@@JustWatches1 This is some research I’ve done. Unfortunately it was all in Japanese so took me a while to decipher it all. But here’s some interesting information for you. The 45 movement was the first “Official chronometer” (as in Swiss chronometer officials coming to Japan and approving the Japanese officials for world recognition and official permission to use the word “chronometer”); the KS 45 is the first watch with this official certification for domestic “japan” retail sale from Seiko Any other Seikos sporting the words “chronometer” on their dial before the KS45 were manufactured to chronometer specifications but not officially recognised. Later the Swiss drew a court ordered injunction to suspend Seiko from using this word from there watch dials. The 45 movement was the only highbeat movement from Daini factory The 45 movement was the last hand assembled king seiko movement The 45 movement architecture was adopted and highly regulated for use in the Grand Seiko 4580 for their high grade VFA movement.

Video @ 10:23 "a Flat Black Matte finish on the top" - I have the identical watch. Mine also looks "flat black down the middle", but if you get out a loupe/magnifier, you'll see that there isn't ANY paint on the indices (unlike the sides, they're just not polished in the middle) . Guessing that there's an optical illusion going on here...👌 Since you now have experience with this model, will you offer a service for it ? - My sample like yours runs nicely & isn't Mint (runs too fast about 5 min per day)...

Oh fascinating, I am going to have to take a closer look with my scope. I love the effect and wish they would use it on some of their modern watches. As far as service, I am brand new to the servicing side of the hobby and definitely not comfortable to do so yet, maybe ask me in 5 years lol! I am pretty sure Vintage Time Australia will service any King Seiko, I watched his tear down videos on KZfaq to learn how to do much of the service.

That's a great question. Opinions about servicing widely vary. For this one, unless it displays signs that something is wrong (starts losing time, etc.) I probably wouldn't service it against for 5-6 years because I used all modern synthetic oils/greases.
