Join me for candle testing and review of Haymanot & Co. These candle reviews are a great way to learn from other candle makers as well as to get feedback and tips for improvement on your own candles. I review the candle jars, wax, wicks, labels, packaging, and more. We also of course burn test the candle for performance. We talk about the best part of the candles and any potential areas for improvement. A big 'Thank you' to Haymanot & Co. for sending these in. Feel free to check out the other resources below. :)

Get video Wade. While I was testing out a lavender candle I made that had lavender bushels in it, It caught fire on my living room table while I was in the kitchen. Thank God I smelled it before it caught my home on fire. Those candles I scraped from selling to customers.

@@BlackTieBarn Hi there, hope you’re keeping well. Thank you so much for giving your honest reviews about the candles. Sorry I didn’t really send anything with it as I sent all the info via email only. As mentioned in the email before, the candle business is very recently started, so I’m still in the process of learning before I fully start selling them everywhere. So now I’m only doing it to close friends and family members to get their feedback. Here are the details of the things used to make the candles. Sweet orange Made with KeraWax 4600 Paraffin Pillar Wax Juicy Orange Fragrance Oil Orange candle dye (chalk dye) Wick used LX26 Lavender Soy wax Lavender essential oil Wick used LX26 I have been having issues with soy was especially as it starts to frost at the top and ruin the look. Also I would love to know how to make the side part smooth ( when you see the side part of the glass, the wax seems not even and smooth). Also just want to say thank you very much for everything that you’ve done, I’ll try to make improvements and send the improved version for a second review. Thanks.

@@arsemabiniam158 Hi Arsema!!! No problem at all sending info with the candles. Some send in details and others do not. Really no big deal at all! :) I also apologize for not connecting the email to the package, I get so many it is tough to correlate them sometimes. And I COMPLETELY understand being in the learning stages. That is the main reason I started these review videos was to provide engaged help as I could through actual testing. That is how we all learn... from one another. You did a good especially considering you are still in the early stages. I am not too familiar with the KeraWax 4600. But, the fact that it is a pillar wax explains several things. First is how hard the wax was and also why it wasn't smooth against the sides and why you had those white jump lines along the side. Pillar waxes usually do not work too well in glass jars. Do you have any container style waxes you can use or instead or blend it with? You will find it easier to wick as well. Was the lavender made with a soy wax? It seemed different and had frosting? Heck you could even try blending these two waxes as a fun experiment! No problem at all on the review. Thank you for sending them in! ;)

@@BlackTieBarn thank you very much it really means a lot honestly. Sure I never thought of mixing both waxes before but I’ll give it a try to see how it comes out. And I’ll also try to use different jars to see if it improves. Once I try all of the recommendations you gave me I’ll definitely resend the ones I’ve tried for another review. 🙏 thanks. Stay safe.

Hi BTB! I think I have mastered the formula of the right wax with the right wick. However, 1 time I could burn a candle I'll get a perfect melt pool on the first burn using the 1 inch per hour method, and other times my flame/burn struggles to get to the sides and starts drowning. Do you think this is because of inconsistent wick size cutting? In my head, to ensure the customer gets a guaranteed melt pool, I'm thinking of leaving a few more mm on the wick so I get a bigger flame so it reaches the sides.. does this sound reasonable to you? Thoughts please!
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Joel! Well..... I personally don't feel there is a formula for perfect wax/wick combo as there are so many variables. Different fragrance oils can affect wicking too. I have one jar for example that uses the same wax. But I use two different wick types and 3 different sizes of each throughout those jars FO matters and can mean different wick sizing. But regarding your specific question/issue.... yes that happens sometimes. No two candles burn the exact same. It's a little combustion process inside a candle. When dealing with fuel (wax) and a flame... its going to be I consistent and vary. Shouldn't vary too much though. It is common to have wicks behave a bit different at different stages of the burn. Go with the overall best option. I also don't go by the 1 hour per 1 inch rule. That is kind of an old adage and more of a rough guideline. But the wax type and jar type/size will mean different burn behaviors. Soft waxes will get a full melt pool much faster. Also a full melt pool that is 1/4 - 1/2 deep on first burn is usually overwicked in my opinion. The jar will retain more and more heat as it burns down so it will get hotter and hotter. Leaving a tiny hangup or a shallow melt pool on first couple burns is completely normal.
