Just picked up the 1587vs at a yard sale for $20 in the case in excellent condition. As far as I can tell from looking at your video, it’s the same machine. Glad I watched your video, I would have never figured out how to change the blade.

Mine just died after over 15 years of use. Picked up a newer model and don't like it as much. It's much harder to see the cut line. There is a finger guard in the front and the blade is set back 1 inch, which limits visibility when cutting.

I feel your pain. I've been looking at newer models too, and I'm shocked at how awkwardly they are balanced with poor ergonomics. Awful. Sometimes they should just leave well enough alone!

@@enduringcharm You are right. The new models are really bulky and heavy. To top it off, Bosch has like 4 different models (6 if you count barrel grip models) for sale right now for some reason, which is really confusing. And that's not even counting battery powered models. I'm gonna try to find a used 1587 on ebay. I've been using the JS470E for the past week and miss my 1587 more and more with each passing day. I can't stand the blade being so far back on the newer models. That's the worst part.

There's a lever in the front to do that. Just flip it to the setting that best moves the sawdust from your cut.

I just bought a used Bosch 1587AVS Jigsaw for $45 off Craigslist. A Bosch GST-140 jigsaw costs ~$400 new (!!) I'm sure the GST-140 is a nice tool but only the military or Donald Trump spends $400 for a jigsaw (my dad calls it Sabre-Saw) Happy Holidays!

I bought mine in 1996 and it came with a “commemorative” 50th anniversary white metal case and the metal at the front of the saw is gold colored. I’m trying my damnest to keep it all clean thinking it might actually be worth something....but probably not...lol.

I totally remember those cases! It's probably worth no more than a standard model, but it's still a great saw. I picked up a second one that I found locally so now I have one on the trailer and one in the shop. Parts are still available, so I hope I'll have many more years of use.

I've never needed to do a thing, so I've never had them apart. I own two of these, and the older one has had twenty years of hard-core work in a pro setting. It lives in my trailer, bouncing around to and from jobsites. I replaced the show many years ago after a drop onto concrete, but that's it.

I covered that at 0:53. One sets the amount of orbital action one directs the air to blow sawdust from the line.
