Prefer buying the A unit and B separately to get a power B. They look like they are reasonably good units.

I found the unpowered B unit to be so heavy that it dragged down the locomotive. Other than that it runs great. Love the Penn graphics.

Have you tried oiling the wheels? Make sure they spin freely...I have this loco, and it does not have this problem. I always inspect and lubricate wheels (axles)

@@wobblinwheel yes, oil was the first thing I did, but that did not help. Because of the metal chassis on the B unit it is the same weight as three cars therefore causing drag. Next I am going to try removing some of the gears.

They are not producing is good a quality sets anymore. Yet their prices are not changing. There A and B sets used to both be powered as it should be allowing for more tractive effort for pulling up grades or even just longer trains with heavier cars. The weight of the A unit wasn’t increased even to compensate for better tractive effort therefore applying the extra unpowered B unit adds the equivalent to several cars already behind the locomotive before any are coupled to it.

The B unit is only 6 ounces,less than two NMRA correctly weighted cars.

@@alangiolma4278 it may only be 6 ounces, but there is extra drag added due to the fact that the wheels in the truck sets do not roll as smoothly as most and MRA compliant cars do. Not to mention that that light of a unit will easily be derailed throughout any sort of curves, with extremely heavy or long trains.

400 dollars dude I mean let's get real. I just got too alco pa 1s at a train show brand new for 80 bucks each !!. 400 for that u must be mad.who cares if it's DCC

You pay for quality. Yes it’s expensive but if you want some of the highest quality models are kind you’re going to have a pay the price.

Quality comes at a price, some people don’t like to buy cheap stuff. It’s not reliable, takes work and isn’t fun to work with overall, I got bored of dc so I switched to dcc, never will I buy a non-dcc sound locomotive in my life.
